Moving Image- tiggs18

0:00  Seems to be many houses in which were involved in some type of flood.  Houses that look like they are crowded next to each other in some type of small neighborhood sit in high waters with no bodies to be encountered for.

0:03-0:06 Camera changes to a house that has water almost up to the front door with a man sitting on a chair on the porch.  It seems that he is trying to think  to himself with tragic thoughts about what he is looking at.  Something like this and how tragic that it is could ruin someones entire life so i couldn’t imagine how bad this man must be feeling about his future.

0:06-0:08 New shot of the back window of a car where there are two children looking out in some type of fear.  It seems the car is dredging through water.  In a sense, these kids could seem to be looking for someone who is helping and seeing what is really going on and how bad everyone has it.

0:08-0:10 Camera changes to what looks to be a flooded area in which some people are being push in little boats to try to stay dry.  The words on the screen make it look as if some people got on their boats to go safe others stranded.

0:11 People on boats in the high water seem to al be heading in the same direction most likely leading to go help others.  People like these are great people because they are giving themselves out to help others in these tough times.

0:12-0:13 A man stands in the high water with a vest on.  Flooded houses in the background with a mailbox showing how high the water is.  Clearly they have the man looking down in a sense that he is feeling really bad for everyone and realizing how tragic these times actually are.

0:14 A man stands in which looks to be a flooded street down at a vehicle coming his way which you can see is fighting through the water.  This car coming could be someone coming to help the man on the phone because something could have went wrong in his house, or houses around.

0:15-0:16 People pointing most likely standing in some type of boat.  A car and houses in the background in which the car is almost completely submerged show to brutal conditions.  The words “saving people” is written across the screen meaning that they are a bunch of people trying to help everyone else out.

0:17 A man seems to be pulling an older man and a younger kid through the water to keep them dry.  Once again, the words saving people is written across the screen which could be meaning that this man is pulling them to safety.

0:18-0:19 A boat full of dogs seem to being pulled by a string to keep them out of the water to not drown.  Saving pets is on the screen so it seems that they are all trying to help the pets get to safety so everyone has a pet still.

0:19-0:20 A dog is being carried by somebody to keep them out of water.  The look on the dogs face shows how sad it really is.  To see a dog in this despair shows how hard these times really are for everyone.

0:20-0:23 A lady stand in what looks to be her living room where it is completely flooded.  Looks to be a dresser in which the draws are out and everything looks damaged.  Its only the beginning on the screen means that this is not the worst of what its coming.  They have to deal with so many problems after this.

0:23-0:28 Looks to be a truck filled with giant bags in which could be care packages.  The words on the screen seem to tell the viewer that those bags are heading over there to help.

0:30 Two children sit on what looks to be a porch where they are holding each other in some type of joy.  Maybe at the end of it all, the bags were sent and in somehow things being to be fixed.

0:01-0.04- The scene begins with the revealing of a mother walking with what seems to be her child in a stroller.  As she is strolling around she encounters a potential setback which was a large flight of stairs.  At the 0:04 mark you see a man come into the picture appearing to be helping the woman get the stroller up the stairs.

0:05-0:09- The story transitions to a stuffed plush toy being found by a man in what seems to be a mall like setting.  You then see a woman and what seems to be the same plush toy but in a different setting looking around to see if someone dropped it.  Both the man and woman with the toy end up handing the toy off to a child.  We don’t know who’s the toy was originally.

0:10-0:14- The ad resumes the initial scenario and of the others.  It seems like this woman receives help from others regularly and this wasn’t something out of the ordinary for her. She probably takes this route normally on a regular routine.  The scenarios all relate by people doing random acts of kindness.  It encourages others to go out of our way and do something nice for someone else.

0:15-0:19- At 0:15 the ad shifts focus and now we see the heartfelt faces of both children after receiving the plush toy, and the woman receiving help getting to the top of the staircase.  The diversity of each scenario is to represent people of all ages, gender and race need help.  You don’t have to know the person to do it either is the message it’s trying to send.

0:20-0:25-  A statistic pops up it really smacks the viewer in the face.  The statistic reads “1 in 5 kids struggle with hunger”.  This advertisement is trying to inspire others to do a kind act for someone else.

0:26-0:30-  The visuals appear to conclude but not before the final message pops up.  The message reads “Help end childhood hunger near you” which is brought to you by ‘Feeding America’.  It also gives a website to donate or find out more information on other ways how you can help.  The PSA redirects you to FeedingAmerica.org.

Good Dad

0:01-0:02 The ad opens up with a middle aged white male looking to his lift with his eyes opened wide as if he is surprised by something in that direction. He is looking from behind a hand carved gold object. The object looks like it could be a picture frame. The man has dirty blond hair with a receding hairline as if he is losing his hair. The man is only visible from his eyes to the top of his head. The gold frame takes up the bottom half of the scene. He looks to be standing with his back against a tan painted wall.

0:02-0:03 The camera zooms out to a full shot of the man and a portrait. The camera captures the area of the room where the man is standing. The man is holding a portrait of a white woman looking to her left, with a gold dress on. The portrait is half the size of the man. The man is holing the portrait with each hand on both sides of the frame. Only his lower body and hands are visible to the camera. He has on blue jeans with black and tan socks. He is standing against a wall between two windows that has tan curtains where the portrait would hang. The room seems to be a sitting room. There are two chairs to his left and right a few feet away from the windows.

0:03-0:05 The man is now in the family room inside a couch laying under the seat cushions. The view of the man is blocked by the couch cushions and wooden coffee table in front of the couch. The coffee table has 3 books on it. There is a tan lamp placed on a table to the right of the couch. There is also a mahogany leather chair with a dark brown leather ottoman to the right of the coffee table. The man is very noticeable under the cushions. He is making the couch cushions uneven creating a separation of the cushions and the couch. The left side of the mans face is visible from the cameras angle.

0:05 The man has tucked his head deeper into the couch as if he doesn’t want to be seen. He is still looking outward to see if something was coming.

0:05-0:06 The man is now in an adults bedroom standing on a white shelf.  His height is fully visible. He is wearing the same jeans and sock with a dark colored sweater and light blues dress shirt under it. He is standing tall with his back against the wall of a double door glass paneled closet. There is also a single door white closet directly in front of him. The room is light tan and white.

0:06  There is a person seated in a mahogany leather chair with a colorful knitted blanket with only their hand and foot exposed. The person has the same socks the man had on. The person is noticeable to anybody it that room. The room seems to be a entertainment room. There is a flat screen television on the wall. The television is mounted on the wall between a white shelf with pictures and books on it.

0:07 The person has pulled their exposed hand under the cover.

0:08-0:09 The camera is positioned to show the mans body from the legs down. He seems to be attempting to hide behind a curtain. He is in the same attire. The curtain is off white with a horizontal pattern at the bottom. There are Two tables visible in this scene.

0:09-0:11 The camera is now positioned to the mans left with his body visible from the shoulders up. The man is behind the curtains looking to his left as if he sees something in that direction. The man’s face is cleanly shaved like a Wall Street business man. He has a calm but alert facial expression.

0:11-0:13 The man is now in a hallway near the front door. The front door is wide open but he is not headed for the door. He looks like he is trying to step as lightly as possible. He is looking to his right up the stairs. His shoes are still off, that maybe because walking in the hallway with hardwood floors would make too much noise.

0:13-0:15 Someone is now standing in a black brick chimney with their lower body exposed. There are two bronze ornaments to the persons right and left. These ornaments are knee high to the person.

0:15 The man is now at the top of the stairs looking toward the room behind the steps. The camera is positioned in a room with the view of the stairs and the room directly across from the stairs. The room has a picture on the wall with two black wooden chairs a few feet away from the wall.

0:16 The man is now in the doorway across from the stairs looking in the same direction as before.

0:17 The man is now in the doorway of the room with the picture and black chairs looking into the room where the camera is positioned. He seems to be looking for someone.

0:18-0:19 He is in a laundry room balled up in a cabinet attempting to close the cabinet door. There are two laundry detergent bottles in front of the man. There are also folded laundry on the folding table.

0:20-0:21 He is standing behind a plant he is holding near a white door. There is a mirror to his left. The camera is positioned to capture most of his body except his feet. There is a room to his left where a brown piano sits under a window. There is also a small picture and lamp near the piano.

0:21-0:23 He is now in a kid’s room smiling into the room from behind a shelf of stuffed animals. The stuffed animals might belong to a little girl. There are many stuffed animals with girly colors in them. The paint on the wall is white with pink flowers. This further indicates that it’s a girls room. There is a baby doll on the bed out of focus of the camera.

0:23-0:25 This scene is in a upstairs hallway. There is a wooden cabinet against the wall. There is a little girl with pink and purple pajamas on running in the hallway. The girl is running in the direction of a room at the end of the hallway. She has long brown hair that sways behind her as she runs.

0:25-0:30 The man is in the room hiding under a pile of clothes. The closet looks like a storage closet because the shelves are full of white blankets and towels. There is also a vacuum cleaner to the right of the guy. The words Fatherhood.gov floats above the man’s head. There is also four logos and the number 877-4DAD411 at the bottom of the screen.

0:01

A bald man in a purple shirt appears to be looking down at something. In the background there were 2 paintings hanging from the a tan-yellowish color wall. He reaches down to turn the volume up on the radio that seemed like it was already playing.

0:02-0:03

I saw him pouring a tray full of ice into a silver metal bucket. It seems like he’s setting up for a party or a special occasion.

0:04

In the scene I see him pouring a bag of pretzels into a small blue and green bowl.

0:05-0:06

Mr. Titus O’Neil goes into the refrigerator as if he is putting seething in the it. After, that I see him open a red door.

0:07-0:08

I see him look down towards the ground. The camera is back farther and I see another person that is handing him food. The man smile as if he is happy that the delivery man came.

0:09-0:10

The next scene you see the man setting up a small green table. He places a black chair on the side of the a green table.

0:11

After setting up the green table and the chairs he sits in his seat with a deck of cards in his hands. The camera is now aiming at the mans hands that have the deck of cards laying flat on the table. It seems like he is having a get together where he will be playing card games.

0:12-0:13

I see him laying the cards down next to each other and shuffles the cards.

0:14-0:15

The camera is still looking at his hands as he passes the already shuffled cards out to his opponents and himself to begin playing the card game.

0:16-0:17

The camera cuts to his face and the cards are close to his face as if he doesn’t want his opponents to see them. His eyes are shifting from his left and right to keep an eye on his opponents so they wouldn’t look at his cards.

0:18-0:19

The camera zooms out and you see a text appear at the bottom right corner of the screen saying “Titus O’Neil WWE Superstar” his card is brought down farther to the table. Their are two pairs of hands on either side of him. He looks to his opponent on his right side and I see his mouth moving to the opponent. The camera continues to zoom out, I see that the person he was looking at was a young boy that couldn’t be older than 11 years old.

0:20

The camera begins to zoom out and I see the kids eating a sandwich with a side of pretzels and carrot. I see the child that the Titus O’Neil was play arguing with was drinking some a glass of fruit punch and the other younger boy is drinking a juice box. It seems like the boy and the WWE Superstar are play arguing about the card game.

0:21-0:22

The young kids start dancing in their chairs probably because they won the card game. It shows that the WWE Superstar throws his cards down in defeat. The text saying “Titus O’Neil WWE Superstar” starts to fade away. The camera continues to zoom out slowly until it fades to black.

0:23-0:33

The screen fades to a black scene and in white lettering saying “It takes a moment… to make a moment.” It goes to another black screen showing a hashtag #makeamoment with the “a” being in orange color lettering and the rest in white color lettering. At the bottom left side of the screen it shows a URL fatherhood.gov and the bottom right side of the screen it shows the Ad Council label and other sponsors.

0:01-0:03 –

The Ad opens up with a man who seems to be devastated while he is inside of an ambulance. He has tears coming from his eyes and he has a bloody bandage on his forehead as if he is injured. There are two nurses a male and a female who are assisting another person on a stretcher. The camera then zooms in on his heart rate monitor and it is decreasing.

0:04-0:10-

The devastated man in the ambulance then has this guilty look on his face, but  we don’t quite know what seems to be the scenario. He is rubbing his head and sobbing as if he just killed someone. The camera then zooms in on the man laying on the stretcher as one of the nurses put an oxygen mask on his injured face. The man on the stretcher looks to be in a very bad condition. One of the nurses uses a defibrillator on the wounded man. Meanwhile the other weeping man is still ranting off, and the woman nurse looks at the man with such a disturbed look on her face.

0:11-0:15-

Both of the nurses then look at eachother then back at the deviated man with a smirk. They have a look on their face which is a sign of relief as if what the man said was good news. The lady nurse then lifts the defibrillator.

0:16-23-

The man on the stretcher arises from the mat and looks around the room. The camera then zooms in on the injured man on the stretcher and he has a brace around his neck with blood all over. When he rises he looks as if he was a vampire awakening from the inside of a coffin. He then looks at the nurses and the man who is devastated as if he is perfectly fine and ready to go immediately. The devastated man then looks amazed beyond belief as if he had just seen a ghost. His face goes from completely crying and sobbing to dazed and confused.

0:24-31-

The man on the stretcher then falls back down onto the stretcher. The male nurse then gives the devastated man a sarcastic look and puts the gas mask onto the patient. The lady nurse puts the defibrillator back onto the mans chest and continues to operate. The man who was calmed down by the surprise of the man on the stretcher then immediately starts crying again. He puts his head down in disappointment. Then a quote comes on the screen which states “Buzzed driving is drunk driving” .

0:00- There is a boy, assuming to be about nine or ten years old. This boy has short light brown hair with white skin. He is wearing a light blue shirt and looks like he is walking somewhere on a sidewalk. He is also wearing a grey backpack which can be assumed that he goes to school and is either walking home or to school. The setting looks like a sunny day in the suburbs. There is a street with no cars, though maybe there are vehicles down the street but who knows. The background is unclear because the camera is focused on the back side of this boy’s head. We can see that he is also walking on the right side of the street.

0:01- The camera angle is still focused on the back of the boy’s head, but now angled more on the right side of him. There is yet to see this boy’s face. In this shot, there is now a fence in the background with some bushes. It looks like he is entering a yard, opening the gate. The fence isn’t wood or brick, but only thin wire.

0:02-0:03- The boy now enters a house, assuming it is his parents’ or guardian’s. We now see his body from the knees down. He is wearing average jeans with average tennis shoes. The door is light blue, and the floors are tile.

0:04- The boy enters a kitchen while ripping off his backpack, assuming after a long day at school. The clock in the back read 3:35, so this theory can be assumed. The camera is placed in a room next to the kitchen but as if the audience is watching the child from inside that room. The kitchen is average as well. There is a table with chairs in the center, and a counter and sink in the back with a big window above. There is also a silver, two-door refrigerator. The floor is black and white tile. In the room we are watching from, there is a painting of hand prints on the wall. Maybe it is one of each children living in that house, therefor six children living there, or the one child’s hand several times, in several colors. It is hard to tell, but the hands are all the same size. Beside the picture, there are some color pencils of some sort, assuming the boy likes to draw or color often. There is also some counters and cabinet space in this room as well.

0:05-0:06- The boy then opens one side of the refrigerator. We can now see that there is some art work that has been attached with magnets. We can assume that the boy might have made them in school. From the new angle of the camera, from a floor view, we can see that the table only has two chairs. This could indicate there are only two people living in that house, and the boy might have just one parent.

0:07- We can now see what is inside of the refrigerator and it’s not much at all. There are three containers of some sort of left over food. There is one container of a dip perhaps. One jar of salsa and a box filled with some substance that is unknown because of the angle of it. We can also see a part of the back of the boy’s head, and we can tell he is looking at the same things we are.

0:08-0:09- Here the audience can see the boys face through the opening between the door of the refrigerator and the side of the refrigerator. His face looks disappointed at what he sees. His eyes are looking down and his face, as a whole, doesn’t look pleased.

0:10- 0:11- The camera changes again to a view of the whole refrigerator, and we can now see some condiments on the door. The boy looks over at them and back quickly. We can now see another shelf in the refrigerator that has three more little containers with some sort of left over food. Over all, the refrigerator doesn’t look very appetizing.

0:12- The boy then steps upon one of the wooden chairs that he placed in front of the counter and some of the cabinets. We can assume he has closed the refrigerator door and moved the chair to see what other kinds of food are in the cabinet. The camera is back to just about where it was when it was in the other room, next to the kitchen. We can see more of a child’s art work on the front of the refrigerator too.

0:13-0:14- Now, the boy opens up the cabinet door. We can see what’s inside because the camera is now behind the boy’s head, but it is focused on the cabinet itself. We can see some flour and spice on two shelves in the cabinet. There might be some sugar and meat seasoning, but there’s not much, or at least not many items a child around nine or ten can put together for a snack.

0:15- The new camera angle points right into the face of disappointment. His hazel/green eyes still looking into that cabinet, waiting for his favorite snack to magically appear. His lips not looking like they are going to smile anytime soon.

0:16-0:17- We are back to the camera angle in the next room looking into the kitchen. The boys seems to have just gotten down from the chair and starts to head out of the room from where he came in the first place. We can still see the disappointment on his face as well. The audience can tell that he knows that there is nothing to eat, but it seems like he is used to it. He might be leaving because there is no more hope for anything good to happen in that room. It seems like the boy accepts the fact that there is no food, and he will have to wait until later to eat. The boy might be finding something else to do with his free time he has since eating is out of the picture.

0:18- This is a new angle of the boy walking out of the room. It is closer to his face, and the audience can now see only his upper body. Here, we see the boy taking one last, quick look at the refrigerator while leaving. He looks at it up to down, looking very disappointed and scared because of not knowing when he will eat. The boy then walks out of view.

0:19-0:24- The commercial then cuts to an older lady, around 30, facing the camera. She is standing in that same kitchen, speaking to the camera. She has short blonde hair and blue eyes. She is wearing a shirt with a pink pattern and a navy blue blazer. In the corner of the screen, there are the words “Feeding America” in orange and green writing. The lady then talks to the camera for about five seconds.

0:25-0:30- For the rest of the commercial, the logo of the organization is presented in large words. It says “Feeding America” with their website “FeedingAmerica.org” underneath. The audience can assume that the people of the commercial would like the audience to visit the website and find out more about this organization.

This commercial clearly indicates that there is an issue with hunger. Children come home hungry from a long day of school and have very little to eat or no food at all. This commercial is an advertisement for an organization that feeds the hungry. By the title of the video, we know that the boy could not find food because there is no food at the local food banks. Because of that, the woman at the end was most likely saying something along the lines as to why people should donate, most likely with a depressing fact about child hunger.

Visual Rewrite-edwardnihlman

0:00- A decently groomed white man wearing a button down shirt and tie is standing in a rather standard looking house as determined by the generic cupboards behind him. Based on his appearance and current location, he seems to be doing okay for himself. He is most likely a middle class worker. As he is about to put some sort of food in his mouth, Button Down day dreams to himself.

0:01- Button Down puts the food in his mouth and begins chewing on it.

0:02- The shot changes to show more of the area. Button Down is standing in a kitchen, and also is holding a plate in his left hand. A woman is reading a newspaper. There is another plate and a glass of orange juice in front of her. Due to the lighting and nature of the meal, it appears that the two are eating an early breakfast in the morning. Perhaps they are getting ready to go out to work, which means the woman could be Button Down’s wife.

0:03- This frame focuses in on Button Down cleaning his plate with the faucet water and a sponge.

0:04- The next shot is of the woman’s face as she is watching Button Down cleaning the dishes. This makes her smile indicating that she is happy how responsible Button Down is and maybe also indicating that they have a happy marriage together.

0:05- The scene changes to Button Down being outside, walking towards his car when he notices an older man on their front yard struggling with a tangled cable. Since his car is right next to the house of the older person, it can safely be assumed this is Button Down’s neighbor. Button Down has most of his body in the direction of his neighbor clearly showing a lot of concern for them, which could mean they are about to go in that direction and help them out. Button Down’s house is noticeably less nice and taken care of as his neighbor’s. The neighbor’s hedges are recently cut and well groomed while Button Down’s hedges and bushes look like they belong in an exotic jungle.

0:06- Button Down is fully turned to face the elderly man and has brought his hand up to get the attention of him. It is now even more obvious that Button Down is planning to assist his neighbor with the tangled cable. Despite the lack of care for himself, as seen by the way his front yard looks, Button Down shows a sense of selflessness by helping his neighbor. Button Down must be a very caring guy, even if he cares little for his own appearance.

0:07-0:08- The shot changes one of Button Down spraying water on his neighbor’s hedges while the neighbor is watching him. The neighbor is smiling, clearly happy that Button Down is helping him with his yard work. Considering that it is not his job, and he might even be late for work, this act further solidifies Button Down as a selfless man.

0:09- The scene changes to someone taking a coffee container off its hotplate. The color of the background is grey so it is possible this is either a work environment or a diner.

0:10- The next frame has Button Down and three co-workers in what appears to be a break room. Two of his co-workers are male, and the other female. One of the male co-workers is sitting alone while the other two are sitting together with Button Down standing above them pouring the female co-worker a cup of coffee. This is yet another selfless act from Button Down which continues to show his great character.

0:11- The next frame is a closer shot showing how happy the female co-worker is that Button Down is pouring her a cup of coffee. She shows her appreciation with an almost comical smile.

0:12-0:13- The woman is now drinking her coffee as the male co-worker beside her shows his satisfaction on how well the coffee tastes by having another comical look of satisfaction and then pointing at his mug. This is all directed to Button Down which shows that not only did he pour coffee into everyone’s mugs, but he also may have made the coffee himself. Up to this point, Button Down has oddly not made eye contact with any of the people he has helped out.

0:14- Button Down is now in a line at a grocery store holding several items in front of the cashier. He has tilted his head while looking at the older man beside him in order to tell the older gentleman to get in front of him.

0:15- The older man has raised his hand to show he is only holding a pineapple. This means that Button Down realized that the person beside him would not be very long, and in fact did not want to waste this other customer’s time since Button Down is carrying several items. The older man has also begun to walk in front of the man. For the first time, Button Down has made eye contact with another person, but not for very long.

0:16- Button Down is now driving in the car, but he has his head looking below at the seat next to him. Most likely, his phone went off for some reason which caught his attention.

0:17- The next shot is that of the phone which clearly has a notification on the screen. The notification reveals that the noise was most likely a text message since there is no call screen on the phone at the moment. Within the frame, Button Down is also reaching for the phone with one of his hands in order to respond to the text.

0:18- Button Down has brought up the phone to a good level in order to read the text. There is a grin on his face showing that it must have been a funny message. The man is no longer looking at the road however, which is a dangerous thing to do. This action also betrays everything the man has done before which were all responsible and selfless acts.

0:19- The next frame has Button Down’s car pulling up to a red light from a bird’s eye view. There is a red car beside him, a black woman sitting on the bench to the right of his car. There are two female pedestrians crossing the road and other pedestrians near a building towards the top of the shot.

0:20- The next shot shows us the man who is driving the red car that is beside the Button Down’s car. His windows are open showing that he is looking right into Button Down’s car with his mouth open and a face that expresses subtle surprise. The view even shows Button Down looking at his phone out of focus. This confirms that Red Car is rather surprised, maybe even disappointed that the man beside him is texting while driving a vehicle.

0:21- The red car driver has changed his facial expression to show more clear disappointment in Button Down.

0:22- The shot is a close up of Button Down’s face who is no longer looking at his phone, but has turned his head to look out of his window. Most likely he has noticed that Red Car is staring at him. However, he has not fully noticed him yet, because he still appears rather happy.

0:23- Button Down has clearly made full eye contact with Red Car, because his face changes to a nervous look. Ignoring the brief moment of eye contact in the grocery scene, this is the first moment of extensive eye contact between Button Down and another person. This is no doubt done intentionally, because this is a moment of character betrayal. Button Down has done something against his character, and as such is really taking in what people think of him.

0:24- Button Down has now turned his head in the other direction to make full eye contact with the black woman who is sitting at the bench. The woman is looking directly at Button Down while frowning. Similarly to Red Car, this woman shows clear disappointment with Button Down’s decision to text while driving a car. Her face is very scary looking, but still in a rather comedic fashion.

0:25- Button Down is now seen looking away from the woman with his phone no longer beside him in the shot. He must have put it away as soon as he realized what he is doing was wrong. His face still clearly shows concern since he is being judged by others around him. He has gone back to not making eye contact with people, as he is clearly afraid of their judgement and would rather not think about it.

0:26-0:27- The next shot is a close up of the woman frowning at Button Down, further driving home the disappointment she feels with him texting while driving. These comedic facial expressions are seemingly used to express that Button Down is not a bad person, but he did make a bad decision. Button Down should not be condemned for what he has done, but rather reconsider for the next time such a situation arises.

0:28-0:30- Button Down is looking at the woman again with his face and tucked lips showing that he is embarrassed with what he did. Texting while driving is an irresponsible thing to do. Even though Button Down has proven to be a selfless person through noble acts of kindness, this does not make texting while driving any less wrong.

“Now”

0:01
The ad starts in the middle of a scene, where we are put behind the counter of a diner with a quick zooming back of the camera. The footage looks a bit dull and faded with minimal washed out colours, makes you feel as if it’s a home recorded video or some low-budget film, that is recorded for a real purpose.

Looking at the marble countertop before us, it seems as if the footage was taken perhaps from the kitchen or the service window. This is made clear as some ketchup bottles, sugar server, menu holders seen somewhat closer to the camera along with empty glasses kept upside down in a tray and a red top bottle of Angostura bitters, commonly used as a cocktail flavour.

On the counter are two young boys (one black, one white) sitting with a man. Both young boys are dressed in similar sport jerseys. The man is wearing a white T-shirt and a black Jacket and it appears to be gym clothes with a lanyard hanging around his neck. Probably a whistle hangs from it. This could mean he is a school coach and may be asking the two young boys to finish their food by repeatedly pointing at their plate. Maybe he doesn’t want the food to be wasted. The man looks to be in his mid 30’s and the two boys appears to be about 10-12years old.

Behind the three at the counter, there is another man and a woman also looks to be around their mid 30’s, occupy opposite sides on another table discussing something. It appears as if they are all sitting in a diner. The framed artwork hangs on the wall by the couple is a black and white photo of an urban street scene.

0:02
The camera zoomed in on the right face profile of the man, who turns to his right and starts talking. He has long sideburns. It is possible that someone is sitting next to him. He has a very comforting smile on his face. Maybe he is talking to a close-friend or relative.

0:04-0:05
Another young white boy approximately of same age as the other two boys, covers the frame with a wide smile on his face, rather feeling ticklish by the man’s hand moving around on his head, making him lean towards the man. He has very short blond looking hair and a very pretty smile on his face. He is wearing the same V-neck sport jersey as the other two young boys, as if they all belong to a same team. The coach seems to be teasing him in a friendly way. The kid has a wide smile on his face and is nodding his head as the coach is patting the kids head and talking to him. Their gestures appear to be really friendly and looks like they have known each other for a long time. They could be father and son.

0:05-0:06
There is a sudden change in the boy’s expression. His smile gradually disappears as he looks to be in some doubt due to some loud bang, followed by loud talking heard as if someone slammed their hand right on the table that moved all the glass items. He turns around with fear on his face, and looks on to the table behind them. This is when the frame is fully covered with a woman sitting just behind their table, with blonde, curly sort of short hair. She is wearing an ivory shirt. The woman quickly turns her head towards the boy and notices the boy staring her. She feels embarrassed and turns her head away from the boy toward the man sitting opposite him, who seems to be doing some loud talking.

0:07-0:08
The man comes in the frame again, with his right face profile as he was looking at young boy. He then grinds his teeth as if he has a hint of what’s about to happen after being disturbed by the bang on table followed by some loud talking. It appears if he is a bit disappointed of the whole situation. He looks down at his plate with displeasure on his face, he sighs as he picks up a fry off his plates and slowly eats it. It appears as if he is trying to avoid some situation.

0:09-0:12
With a slight zoom out in the camera this time, shows the man and the young white boy sitting on his left, along with the couple sitting behind their table. Both the man and white boy turn around in doubt to see the man and women sitting on the table behind them opposite to each other. The urban street artwork is also seen, right in the centre on the wall by the couples table. The man, with his left face profile slightly towards the camera and the young boy with his head fully turned around toward the couple are seen, as they try to figure out the ongoing scene between the couple. They see that the man has tightly grabbed the women’s hand with a look of anger on his face as he is pointing his index finger on his other hand towards her, still talking as loud. It appears as if they are arguing over something and he is shouting at her. The woman still feeling embarrassed about the whole situation and wanting it to stop. Next frame fully covers the man accompanied by the three young boys, looking away somewhere, thinking what to do as he grinds his teeth again with his mouth shut this time.

0:12
A question pops up with a black background.
“When do you get involved?”

0:14-0:21
The coach is in the frame again for some split seconds. The frame quickly keeps on switching between the two different ongoing scenarios. One is where the coach is sitting down thinking about the behaviour of the man on the other table towards his woman. Thinking whether he should get up and interrupt or let it be on the couple to be sorted on their own. The second switching frame shows different physical actions being performed by the man on the woman as she tries to resist, still wanting him to stop and calm down. The man is being somewhat violent and showing aggressive behaviour by pulling her by shirt and snatching her hair, wanting her to get up and leave the table as she keeps on resisting. The coach is still thinking something. And soon after, another question pops up with a black background. The question says “Now? “. This is quickly followed by a very violent reaction from the man, he hits the woman right in her face as she was resisting to leave the table and wanting him to stop, trying to get his hands off her. The coach is still thinking as the same question pops on the screen again “Now?”.

0:22-0:26
This time the camera is fully focused on the kid who was initially smiling, now completely frightened by the angry man’s behaviour. His face is full of fear, as he looks very uncomfortable, scared, disgusted, helpless. He is sympathetic towards that women. He is sad and uneasy and it looks like he is about to cry. It feels as if he wants to do something to stop this physical abuse. He looks at his coach in despair, hoping he would do something to stop this. He just wants someone to stop this. Then a sentence pops up with the kid in the background. The sentence says “The best time to get involved is Now.”

0:28-0:32
Another sentence shows up on the screen, “Teach boys that violence against women is wrong.” While the frightened young boy is still seen in the background.

0:33-0:37
Again the black background pops up with words fading in – “Teach Early. Call 800-End-Abuse.”

The End

Conclusion:
The advertisement conveys a really strong message on Violence against women. It shows the importance of teaching your kids the difference between the right and the wrong. Every adult is responsible for stopping this kind of behaviour. They should stand against it and teach their kids the same. Violence against women is wrong. Violence against anyone is wrong. Stand against the abuse and end it.

0:00-0:004- The ad begins in the mall with the camera angle focusing on a kid teddy bear lying on the floor.  Then the angle shifts so I can see the view surrounding the bear ; which shows that people keep walking pass the bear and not paying it attention. It seems like it’s a young child who is between the ages of three and five has lost their bear when their parents were rushing to get somewhere.

0:07- The camera focuses a older man who came towards the teddy bear and picked it up. While he is picking it up; the camera then changes to a wider view where he is looking around suspiciously to see if there’s any kids around who he can ask if it’s their teddy bear.

0:16- A older lady is entering the mall, but the camera focus on her with the baby stroller and her struggling to get pass the first step.

0:15-0:20- The camera comes far out to show that a younger man came over to the lady with the stroller to help her get upstairs. They each are holding one end of the stroller so its equal weight.

0:21-0:23- The camera switches positions quickly with the old men and two young girls who is trying to find a parent who has a child that lost their bear. The camera also zooms in to see their face expression as they look around confused.

0:24-0:27-The camera switched back to the old men while he walks up to a mother and her young child. The camera zoom in on the family while the old man is talking to the family. It seem like he is trying to figure out if its the little girl teddy bear. The little girl nodded her head yes and took the bear from the old men. The camera shifted from the family to just focus on the little girl while she hug the bear.

0:28-0:33 – The camera focus on a baby bottle that was rolling around on the floor while everyone was looking.  A young teen founded a bottle, that a man with a baby stroller had dropped.

0:34- Camera switches back to the lady with the stroller. This time it’s three men that’s her with the stroller .Then the camera zoom outs to focus on them helping the lady.

0:35-0:40- The camera focus on the girl who give the bottle to the guy who dropped the baby bottle.  Then the camera zoom in on the young girl and the guy smiling at each other saying thank you.

0:41-0:45- The camera zoomed in on the parents as they smile ,kneeling down smiling to their kids.

Nicely framed pictures are panned in what seems to be a family home. Three pictures of a smiling little boy are shown. In one, surrounded by a thin, brown frame, he is wearing a yellow casual shirt that has a U on it surrounded by some sort of banner with words that cannot be read. It seems like a candid that the family treasures. Another, encased in a slim silver frame, is more posed, he is wearing something formal in front of a blue background with a lighter blue surrounding him; the family most likely got it done professionally. It could be a school picture, but he does not look to be old enough for school. Behind this, the audience sees a gold ring that they soon learn belongs to a candle stick that houses a white candle. A small picture of the boy is half-shown; the audience sees the top of the silver and white frame with a flower on top, and the boys smiling face is seen wearing the same yellow shirt as the casual picture.A fourth picture is a wedding photo, most likely belonging to the parents of the little boy. It has the nicest frame, it is gold with a dash pattern surrounded by two solid black lines. The bride and groom are mid-dance, embracing and smiling. They seem to be a very happy family. The pictures appear to be on a nice wooden table, indicating comfortable financial standing.

0:04-0:07

The camera moves to the wall beside stairs in the home, and a shadow is seen against a white wall below a staircase. The stairs are dark wood, with many white posts supporting a wooden banister. The only parts of the shadow that are seen are the head and one shoulder. The head seems large and a bit square, it is most likely male and possibly the father of the boy seen in the pictures. No long hair is distinguishable, reinforcing this idea. Because only one shoulder is seen, the breadth cannot be determined, but judging by the head size, they are most likely broad. The shadow moves as the camera does, seeming to walk forward. A flash of motion is seen, possibly a hand gesturing with emotion.

0:08-0:11

A little boy, the one from the pictures, is seen sitting on the aforementioned steps. He is maybe three or four years old. He sits with his yellow toy truck, possibly as a security measure. Some kids have blankets, maybe he has a truck. He is wearing a white patterned onesie as pajamas, indicating his young age. He is initially looking down at his truck, but then looks up at about second 10. His legs move apart as he looks up, changing his stature completely from relaxed to alert. He seems a bit startled, and is watching what is transpiring in the room below the stairs. He is not smiling; he seems concerned for what is happening.

0:12-0:13

The shadow is seen a second time. The boy’s brown head of hair is seen from behind, and the wall next to him shows the shadow of what is most likely his father. The shadow is seen through that of the banister posts, giving it an eerie feeling. The shadow of a hand is shown, it looks as if it is pointing in authority to its counterpart, or possibly threatening to strike. The head moves with the hand, indicating an emotion so strong it takes over the body.

0:14-0:23

The boy’s face is shown in close-up; we see his face and the top of his pajamas, which we can now see have cartoon hockey players on them. His dark eyes shine with emotion against his pale skin. Shadows dance against his profile, but they cannot be depicted. Light from the room shines against his face and his hair. He is trying to ignore what is happening, and begins to play with his toy truck, indicated by him looking down and his arms moving back and forth. Then he is startled out of his play, he jumps as he looks at the room below, frightened. His shoulders rise and fall with heavy breathing as his eyebrows rise in surprise. His nose crinkles, flinching away from whatever is happening. He looks forlornly at what has happened, he does not want it to be this way, but it is.

0:24-0:26

White, all capital text against a black background reads “Children have to sit by and watch. What’s your excuse?” What was he watching? It is an ad for domestic violence prevention, so the odds point to the fact that his father has hit his mother. Maybe for the first time, due to his surprise, or maybe it happens all the time and this is just the first time he has seen it.

0:27-0:30

A multitude of logos appear. A blue and black logo outlined by white has text inside it that reads “There’s NO excuse.” Text below it in italics reads “for Domestic Violence.” Under that, a phone number for victims and bystanders to call reads “1-800-END-ABUSE.” An Ad Council logo is seen in the bottom left corner, and text in the bottom right reads “Family Violence Prevention Fund.” These are probably the producers of the PSA. The logos fade, and one is left with a sense that they have to do something to help this little boy and those like him. The ad has hopefully done its job to inspire action.
