Trump criticizes NFL

The Essential Content of this Article: In the article, Trump Criticizes N.F.L. for Not Penalizing Anthem Kneeling, by Ken Belson and Kevin Draper, they explain how owners of teams and officials of the NFL decided that they will not be taking any measures to punish players who are deciding to take a knee, or even not come out during the anthem.  Donald Trump, finds this unethical and outrageous that they aren’t doing anything about it. No matter how you look at it just as Donald Trump is stating in his tweets and speeches, “Total disrespect for our country.” The NFL hasn’t changed any rules saying players have to stand for the anthem and chose not to take any actions for those who do.  This is beginning to inrage more people because there are plenty of other ways for them to protest.

What it proves: There are several other people that agree that this form of protest in not an impactful or positive method.  President, Donald Trump, thinks this is a disgrace against the country and changes need to be made immediately to inforce standing for our flag and anthem.

Think Again Before Disrespecting Our Flag

The Essential Content of this Article: In the article, Think Again Before Disrespecting our Flag and Anthem, by Cody Long, he describes the actions people are taking against this country and against our flag which people in previous years never would have thought of doing.  In years before there were rarely people burning flags, never flags laying on the ground, and never EVER someone showing complete disrespect towards our flag. In addition, this author began to explain, sure protest is allowed and everyone has the freedom of speech, however showing disrespect toward our flag and country these people are going against the rights they are exercising.  Lastly, this is one of the only countries that have the freedoms, if they go outside the U.S they can see these dictatorships and see what having no rights and how great America really is.

What it proves: Many people feel that this is more than just a protest and however it is more disrespect towards our nation and to those risking their lives to keep us free and safe.  In addition, it adds that our nation is one of the few countries that offer these freedoms we take for granted.

Behind the Protests

The Essential Content of this Article:  In this article, What’s Really Behind the Backlash to the NFL Kneeling Protests, by Kim Wilcox, it describes the reasoning behind the protests and why the players are taking these measures to address this issue.  In addition, she talks about the proper reasons why someone may take a knee during the anthem to respect a fallen soldier or family member lost at war, but a call to change racial injustice is not deserving of disrespecting our country.  Kneeing out of respect to our nation and a cause is the only time it should be done never as a protests against what we believe in.

What it Proves: It shows reasons why some people might take a knee during the anthem and it also shows and explains why taking a knee for the protest they are taking part in should not disrespect who we are.  

Quit Grandstanding with NFL Protests and get back to Football

The Essential Content of this Article: In this article, Quit Grandstanding NFL Protests and get back to Football, by James Robbins, he discuss what these protests are doing to the overall name of the sport.  As he said “Remember when you could enjoy pro football without being lectured on politics?” Less people are watching football because they feel disrespected by those players kneeling and also because every week there is something else.  We used to tune in and watch our favorite team try to win and bring home a super bowl, but now it’s all about politics and what team is disrespecting our nation, and what players are going against the flag.

What it Proves: Without the NFL taking a stance and getting control of this issue before its gets more out of control less people are starting to watch the sport and less supporters less money.  

A Marine’s Letter to the NFL

The Essentials Content of the Article: In Col. Jeffery Powers letter to the NFL he explained how he was a fan of the sport growing up, a season pass holder to Yankee Stadium, but he missed 90-91’ season while be stationed at Desert Storm.  He explained a conversation he had with one of the men that died in war about the Giants going to the Super Bowl. When he returned from fighting for this nation, he doesn’t see his teams thanking and honoring him for his service but instead he saw multi-million dollar athletes kneeling during the national anthem.  As a marine, many people said “they will understand it’s for the movement of racial injustice, but they don’t. Many people feel it is not against marines but it goes against everything they are fighting for and this marine explained that marines aren’t making millions of dollar fighting for our country, these athletes are.  Marines don’t play one game a day then get a good break to see their families. Marines don’t play a fun game with friends having a good time.

What it Proves: Marines do feel this is disrespectful towards them and this should be changed.

Nation Anthem 

How many military men and veterans have to be dishonored and hurt due to the lack of respect shown to them because of the NFL?  In the last years more players are taking part of this protest and not coming out during the anthem or kneeling on the field during the song.  The argument for this act is to fight against black people getting targeted and mistreated by cops.  While I do agree that these actions need to stop between cops and black individuals kneeling during our country anthem is not the way to go about it.  More and more veterans are coming out and speaking how they fight and risk their lives and make nearly no money while these sports players get paid 100’s of millions and disrespect the people the protect them.  The NFL and officials should end this before it gets worse people have the right to protest whatever they want however, sometimes when u cross the line there should be consequences and disrespecting everything we stand for is crossing the line.

Under the constitution of the United States, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances” (First Amendment).  Due to the people that founded this nation, we all live free without the horrible lifestyle some other people living in other countries our faced with.  The one thing that signifies our freedom is our flag and nation anthem yet these athletes are disrespecting the one thing that sets them free.

The first change that should be made in the league is that players should not be allowed to kneel or hide during the anthem they have to come out and respect and honor those risking their life.  There are plenty of other ways they can go about expressing themselves.  As retired marine, Jeffery A. Powers said in a letter to the NFL, “I missed the ’90-’91 season because I was with a battalion of Marines in Desert Storm. 14 of my wonderful Marines returned home with the American Flag draped across their lifeless bodies. My last conversation with one of them, Sgt. Garrett Mongrella, was about how our Giants were going to the Super Bowl. He never got to see it.Many friends, Marines, and Special Forces Soldiers who worked with or for me through the years returned home with the American Flag draped over their coffins.Now I watch multi-millionaire athletes who never did anything in their lives but play a game, disrespect what brave Americans fought and died for” (Speech).  This is one of the most powerful speeches I have read in my life, and he talks the truth.  He along with millions of others feel these players are completely disrespecting the marines who died and risk their lives out in battle.

Again I do agree that all people have the right to protest, however when you are going against everything that keeps and honors our freedom there should be consequences.  With the 100 million dollar contracts most of these players sign they can organize a huge event where all the people who support the same cause can come and gather.  Disrespecting our country’s nation anthem on live TV broadcasting to millions of people needs to end or there should be something done about this.

Kneeling during the NFL

 

  1. It’s a slap in the face to people who risked their lives for our country or lost loved ones doing so.
  2. There are no real benefits of kneeling during the anthem.
  3. Sports stars have a great life so why show contempt towards a country that makes it possible?
  4. Not one single person, behavior or law is changed by football players refusing to stand for the anthem.
  5. If these players making hundreds of millions of dollars want to protest, with the money they make they can do so in several other manners without disrespecting everything this country stands for.

“In a family system, every member of that system is going to be impacted, most often in a negative way, by mental-health issues.”

  • Will “EVERY” member be impacted?
  • FAMILY– refers to relatives you live with all the time, what about friends and relatives you see often but not every day will they be impacted?
  • MOST OFTEN- is the majority of the time, however what are the other instances are there positive ways of being impacted?

 

“Children are “usually not” treated, but when necessary referred to child psychiatrists”

  • Why aren’t children treated just as adults or other adolescents are treated, can’t they develop the same issues?
  • CHILDREN- are usually under the age of 13, do 13+ go adult treating or do they not get treated at all?
  • Why do they get sent to psychiatrists?

 

“The Army only helps families of active-duty personnel.”

  • Why won’t they helped those who terms are up?
  • Just because they aren’t serving currently doesn’t mean they never did why don’t they deserve help anymore?

 

“When I asked the VA if the organization would treat kids for secondary trauma, its spokespeople stressed that it has made great strides in family services in recent years, rolling out its own program for couples’ counseling and parenting training.”

  • TREAT KIDS- the response was about family services and parenting instructions still no help for the kids suffering.

 

“If you asked the VA to treat your kids, they would think it was nonsense”

  • Why are they so against helping the kids of these families?
  • Being a child in the situation could be just are hard as a spouse and they should get the treatment they need.

 

“Our goal is to make the parents the strongest parents they can be”

  • How is this going to help or benefit the children that are affected?
  • What is the definition of a strong parent?

  • If you don’t follow their guidelines and rules thats it you’re on your own.

Idea to Reduce Football Concussions

It seems counterintuitive that the way to stop concussions in football is to remove the players helmets.  Concussions in the NFL are rising over the years due to illegal hits and dangerous tackles.  

His idea is that players are throwing caution to the wind and making reckless behaviors because of the protection on their head.  The NFL could possibly soon allow players to run down the field trying to kill each other with no head protection.  There will no longer be concussion due to helmet to helmet collisions, however after every tackle there will be a head injury when they hit the ground.  

People feel that if this is passed the sport will no longer be the same, removing helmets will soon lead to rules about how hard they tackle someone or where they aim.  Soon after the NFL will turn into 2-hand-touch, or flag football it won’t be what we have all grown to love.  

The Cruelest Show on Earth

It seems counterintuitive that “The Greatest Show Ever” is held responsible for abusing and leading to innocent Elephants deaths.  These professional circus performers are supposed to be a family, however they saw their one member who wasn’t right and didn’t do the right things to help him.  

Elephants are one of the most intelligent animals on this earth.  Along with being intelligent they are often called the gentle giant, however they have been used in circus acts for years because of their intelligence but along with being in the shows they have been abused for years.  They were struck with bullhooks, electric shocks, and even whipped.  

In this particular incident, Kenny the elephant was doing a show when it was obvious that something was seriously wrong with him.  Despite his clear symptoms and issues, they neglected his care and pushed him to keep going until it got real bad.  When the veterinarian was brought in they chained him to his stall and 2 hours later his bloody body was found dead chained to his stall.

Giving Free Heroin

It seems counterintuitive that they are trying to stop the heroin epidemic by giving free heroin to addicts without consequences.  They made an area where these people can come and get free heroin, clean needles, and proper cleaning tools.  The goal is to clean the streets and get the drugs out of the area but they are handing out free samples.

Some of the people that got wrapped into this activity want to get clean, however with a clinic handing out drugs for free and clean so no diseases will be spread from the needles.  If they are handing out this substance that is ruled illegal why not just make drugs legal if u can get free drugs at this clinic.

In this study the people who are going to this place and using the free heroin say they can hold a job now, they feel as though they are clean because they aren’t getting the “street” stuff.  Because of this program people can go and get high for free with drugs that are illegal.
