  • Excessive Amount of Force
  • Officers react irrationally to threat
  • Suspects defend themselves in fear of officers.
  • The justice system is dishonest towards citizens and indefensibly supports law enforcement every time
  • Families deserve an approach towards a resolution to this problem
  1. Working Hypothesis 1

Police officers display a racial bias when shooting suspects.

1a. Working hypothesis 2

The common knowledge is correct: white cops brutalize black suspects often enough to be statistically relevant.

  1. Topics for smaller papers

-Definition Argument

  • I will have to explain the analogy between police feeling threatened with the racial bias police gain in training in a definition paper, showing the correlation to advance my argument that police have a racial bias when shooting victims.

-Cause/Effect Argument

  • I will need to indicate by research that police are more tempted to shoot when they are against a black male. This will demonstrate that police have a racial bias when restraining their victims.

-Rebuttal Argument

  • The reasoning is backwards. Black suspects defend themselves out of a fear of being brutalized. They flee, they resist, they attack, sometimes they kill the uniform because of past experiences of injustice from cops.
  1. Current State of Research Paper

I am doing well with my research paper. I haven’t changed my opinion on my topic, I have just been changing my thesis around a little bit. I think my outcome for this paper will be good, I think once I have all my information I will have a solid research paper.

Definition/Classification Argument

I will have to explain the analogy between government officials and the constitution and also Trump and social media.

Cause/Effect Argument

I will need to indicate by research that because of Trumps lack of experience and lack of real life struggle, is causing him to have low approval ratings and low presidential standards, and speaks as if he is above everyone else.

Rebuttal Argument

Has Donald Trump actually violated the First Amendment? Has he actually treated organizations for expressing their First Amendment?

3. Current State of Research Paper

I am doing well with my research paper. I do have trouble with the smaller papers when picking one small topic and staying on it. I tend to branch out with other facts and connections to the current topic. I would appreciate it if you could help steer me in the right direction with some feed back.

  • How helmets make the NFL more dangerous
  • Rugby Injuries compared to American Football injuries
  • CTE and the devastation it causes
  • The phenomenon of risk compensation
  • How taking away helmets will lower risk compensation
  • Risk compensation in other sports

  1. Main Thesis

Eliminating helmets all together will reduce the number of injuries in football.

2. Topics for Smaller Papers

Definition/Classification Argument

Risk compensation is a phenomenon that encourages more riskier behavior. It has been scene in football, everyday life, and all other sports. People feel protected by helmets, seat belts, pads etc, that they actually produce riskier actions that jeopardize their safety. For example, a football player with helmet is going to hit harder than one without a helmet. Helmets may protect the head from bad hits, but it is better to eliminate the bad hits all together.

Cause and Effect Argument

Due to helmets being used in the NFL, players are being brutally injured. Players are wearing helmets which make them feel protected so they make hard, risky hits. The hits that make the crowd cringe. These bad hits later result in concussions, and other injuries. These then can lead to CTE and other chronic joint, muscle, and bone injuries.

Rebuttal Argument

Helmets may still protect our players in todays game. They will still protect players from severe concussions and severe head trauma. They are very protective, but it is better to take out the behavior that causes hits that cause concussions. Even with a helmet on players still do receive concussions in todays game.

3. Current State of my Research Paper

My research paper is coming along very nicely. It seems as if this is an article I was born to write, because it is all coming together so cleanly. Each part of my research comes together like puzzle pieces. All the points lead to each other. With a few minor adjustments I feel as if my paper will be one of the best pieces I have ever wrote. More and more ideas pop into my head as I go and they add more evidence to my research paper.

  • Business Ethics
  • Moral Ethics
  • Corporate Scandals
  • Personal Characteristics in College Students’ Evaluations of Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Corruption within businesses like certain companies and accounting firms

1.Working Hypothesis 1

I believe that those who begin to work in corporates take a turn from their moral ethics to new business ethics they learn because of their business surroundings.

1a. Working Hypothesis 2

Corporations find ethics to be a drain on profits; but every corporation claims to promote strong business ethics.

2. Topics for smaller papers

Defintion/Classification Argument

Moral ethics is different than business ethics, moral ethics is what we know what is right from wrong. Ethics are taught by our parents/guardians and but business ethics is completely different it is more about what is good for the business. Whether it is the right or wrong thing to do but whatever makes the business be more profitable will always be the right decision.

Cause/Effect Argument

The cause of so many problems are because people having a change of thought instead of using their moral ethics they learned from birth, they listen to society which have an affect on their minds. The consequences and effect of not following through the business world with business ethics is a loss of a job, and a loss of money for the business.

Rebuttal Argument

Every business lies about their business ethics. Businesses brag about their company but they are not really presenting themselves well. For example, Enron was a well known company that skyrocketed through false allocations and falsely indicating their true ethics to the world (Enron committed fraud and fixed their profits on the books).

3. Current state of research paper

My current state of my research paper could be better. I have not changed my opinion and I am solidified with my topic. Though I have learned more about the differences between moral versus business ethics. In all honesty I thought they were somewhat the same but after thorough research I found that they are completely different. I sometimes think I am done researching but I learned that there is so much more to be discovered. Hopefully the outcome of this paper will be a success. I know I will need some help starting each argument because I always get stuck.

Parents have total obligations to give to their child, a child has no obligations to their parents unless negotiated between the two. A parent and child negotiation may take place when the child is old enough to do chorus for their parents and in return the child may earn allowance. When raising a child with disabilities it can be different the parents still have all obligations of caring for the child but will the disabled child ever have a negotiation with their parents to have obligations of their own? Here is a view of a four member house hold, two patents and two children and one child is disabled. All members of the family dedicate time to taking care of the disabled child, and most often the dedicated time gets pushed on the able sibling. Parents make negotiations with the able child to care for their sibling and may get allowance in return. Parents have other things important things in life such as work and having a personal life. The able sibling tries to have a personal life but it is hard and seems unfair. The able child thinks life is unfair because they have a huge obligation while the disable child thinks life is unfair because all they can do is receive and can do nothing in return and wishing they were able body like their sibling. Both siblings are in tough situations, they may feel like they are stuck for the rest of  their lives.

If you have gone to a hockey game before then you know that a fight is one of the best things to happen, aside from your team winning. Fighting has been part of the NHL since the rules of the sport were first written in the 1800s. The “Original Six” era saw fighting established as an ordinary part of the NHL game according to Jamie Fitzpatrick in the article “History of Hockey Fights.” Throughout the years there have been many “goons” who have been the tough guys on teams. Teams such as the Philadelphia Flyers have used fighting and intimidation as core tactics during the 70s.

There are several different ways that fighting it still a good thing to have in the game. No one will ever question a player for defending a teammate and having to fight someone. This is in every sport not just hockey, teammates defend each other, it happens in baseball with dugouts emptying and full teams running at each other. It also happens in football when offensive linemen pull down defensive players for getting a late hit on their quarterback. Fighting is also a huge momentum shift in hockey, winning a fight can pump a team and the crowd.

I know that this is late, I have been trying to turn it in but I simply did not know what to write. I could use some help on what more specific things I could argue. I want to argue that hockey should stay in the NHL and the sport in general but I do not know if I will be able to get to 3000 words just talking about that. I need help to find something that would be better like how fighting actually helps teams win with statistics and such. Just a thought I had but I would love some feedback on maybe this on possibly a new topic.

Definition Argument -New EditionLover

After many problems with the violence of guns enough is enough! Gun violence snuffs out a life too early, and it inflicts pain where it was not intended, on the survivors. Gun violence also deprives families of their loved ones. When someone is shot it may leave them permanently injured and or dead. What would people do if there loved ones were affected and suddenly not here one day? Gun violence is the trauma inflicted on survivors and we must do more as a country to prevent it.

In society today we always here about gun violence but has one did anything to lower this deadly or non deadly rate? We first need to address reasons as to why people need guns? I believe that guns are only necessary if you are fighting in the war for our country nothing more nothing less! I know there are many guns laws in effect today like the right to carry with a permit but to me that gives a negative stigma on people. Next to me having a right to carry is basically giving you a free range to draw your weapon soon as you get into a altercation with someone. I’m not saying this is facts but this is simply my opinion. In the article “The Benefits Of Reducing Gun Violence” the author states “compared with earlier research our estimates provide a very different picture of both
the magnitude and distribution of the costs of gun violence. Previous studies of the
benefits of reducing gun violence have adopted an ex post approach that begins with a
count of the annual number of gunshot injuries and then multiples this figure by some
estimate of the cost per injury.”  This shows me the importance of bad gun violence is affecting our country and were simply not doing anything to stop it.

Gun violence has been a bad epidemic since the beginning of times. If anyone was to know anything about gun violence it would be me! When I was just 13 years old my father Kevin Johnson was shot and killed on July 1 2011,in Camden NJ. Next I wondered so much about why this occurred and always thought to myself what would cause someone to end someones life on anyone else’s terms except God. My father was gunned down around 3 am and was shot at 12 times were he succumbed to his injuries. Before the passing of my father I as a child was never really allowed to play with toy guns or cap guns as we used to call them due to the ability that it might encourage us to actually want to shoot someone one day my elders stated. I believe the epidemic of guns started once more when video games created more of a violent and negative stigma to hurt someone who gets in your way!  Almost every video game that is out today deals with guns and or violence which may create negative behavior towards another person .Ever since that tragic day I always look back and review why are guns so important in the first place for our country.

Furthermore losing a loved one to gun violence is something that’s terrible. Next the thought of them dying in so much pain and agony makes you cringe to the floor. I can contest that the mental process is something that is hard to deal with, your constantly thinking and wondering how could someone want to harm someone so bad to the point where the other person is dead. Likewise in the process you have to deal with crying, long nights of reminiscing and ,planning to make sure that the day they are laid to rest is nothing but magnificent. In my opinion its just not a pretty feeling I was very depressed and could not stop asking God why this had to happen to me! I questioned myself asking what did I do wrong? Or could I have stopped my father from being out so late that night? I basically felt like there was something that I could’ve done to prevent his death and I was only thirteen years old at the time. In addition to this  very day I am still wondering what would make someone want to shoot my father 12 times in cold agony. The article of my fathers death “One dead ,four wounded” offer a brief synopsis of what happened. The article stated “Kevin Johnson, 31, of Camden, was shot multiple times about 1:30 a.m. It appears he was in an argument with the shooter prior to the time of the shooting. He died about 2 a.m. in Cooper University Hospital here, a spokesman for Faulk said.” I still want to know what  was the argument about that initiated the killing of my loving father ! Will I ever get answers that will ease my pain and take this burden off my chest?  Some answers I may never find out and I have to live with that pain for the rest of my life .

What can we do to stop gun violence? The article “Gun Violence Must Stop Here’s What We Can Do To Prevent More Deaths” recommends and states that there should be gun safety among anyone who wants the right to carry a weapon. This system would make people who want to obtain the right to have a firearm commit to firearm training to insist that the weapon is being properly kept. I believe the needs for this is great and would permit less people to want to carry because some people are simply lazy and might not want to commit to the training.Next they recommend a mental health assessment! As stated in my Proposal+5 I believe that all people who want to have a gun in their possession that they undergo serious mental health evaluations. Therefore the article recommends that we have to get rid of the bad stigma of mental health and issues and really get checked at the appropriate  time. Many people are afraid of what others think which causes people to may not wanna be evaluated.

Later as a country we must continue to move in the right direction. As a move in progress a we must continue to question why do people need to have fire arms? I think that that if you want to use firearms for violence then you should join the army or something of that nature. I believe that if you have a firearm and are a person with problems with the law and have prior affiliation to violence and especially with gun violence you should not be permitted to have one.  I say this because the person is more likely to resort to violence especially with gun violence. As we are tying to reduce and prevent gun violence as much as possible the more people out the way the better. We must simply react differently and  the article “Gun Violence Must Stop Here’s What We Can Do To Prevent More Deaths” the 4th recommendation or clause consists of sensible gun laws! Their is no reason that there are ways in which you can maneuver around the system and find random people selling firearms legal. This is a way in which people have to got through a background check and re institute the gun laws. This recommendation proposed that deadly weapons of any assault has any range of being anywhere in the community or any immediate surroundings except the battlefield as I previously talked about. In the article “Violent Felons Can Buy Guns Online Without Background Checks”  states that “Federal law prohibits felons from purchasing or receiving guns unless their rights have been formally restored. However, felons can get around this obstacle by buying guns from sellers who do not require criminal background checks.” Furthermore this is very dangerous and the source and sight should be doomed illegal and needs to be shut down immediately. Next the article states”Violent felons aren’t allowed to buy guns, period ,But they can take advantage of the loophole in federal law that allows gun sales, including some gun sales over the Internet, to purchase from non-licensed sellers, who don’t have to conduct a background check.” This is a very serious and problem that must be federally evaluated and looked as a probation violation for felons that aren’t legitimately able to purchase weapons.

NASCAR, Possible Origins

The American Prohibition was enacted in the year 1920 and would last until 1933. The eighteenth amendment was enacted to enforce the restriction of alcoholic beverages. This included liquor and beer products. At the time these products were in high demand, since it is a major part of society, its iconic and everyone for the most part enjoys them. This being said, the market would go from legal to illegal very quickly. The black market would supply these products to people who were willing to pay. In the big cities, the alcohol trafficking was done mostly by gangsters. These gangsters would form organizations and create bars and clubs. Being a very lucrative business and highly illegal, the police would step in and shut them done. Eventually the businesses went “underground”. Alcohol trafficking was a great way to make money doing this time, assuming the person would not get caught. Cars were in demand being the new thing. The transportation of goods went from horse and wagon to the automobile. During this time many alcohol products would be brought in by cars or trucks and sold to the public “under the table”. Eventually this would be found out by the police and the transportation of goods this way had to be more crafty. This would lead to the  modification of these automobiles. Having a car or truck that could evade the police for the most part fixed this issue. This, some may say, laid the foundation for the beginning of NASCAR, and modification of cars.

The black market at this time was highly lucrative, being that large amounts of money could be made extremely fast. In essence the black market would jump start the illegal activity of many during this era.

The transition from the nineteenth to the twentieth century was widely apparent. Cities grow to record sizes and the people changed for the good and bad. During the roaring twenties, some people acted on this black market, either adding to it or trying to “bust” it. The people who wanted to control this surge of money were primarily the big time gangsters in these huge cities. Cities like Chicago, New York City, Boston, ect. Gangsters back then are nothing like the ones of today. They had class, but also thought on their feet. One of the most famous ones from this time period was Al Capone, working in the mid west. Since the distribution of any alcoholic product was outlawed aside from medical use, it would be harder and harder to sell it. The gangsters of this time thought of extremely clever ways to make money and ensure their customers had what they wanted. The creation of “underground” bars and clubs would begin. Theses types of clubs and bars would be known as speak easy. These clubs would be hidden and passwords would be used for access. People had fun, and the gangsters made money. It was a win win.

Alcohol was used as medicine back in this time period. Doctors could proscribe the alcohol for specific ailments. When the eighteenth amendment was established, the medical field created special cars so that alcohol could be given for the people that needed it. Some doctors looking to make money would sell these cards filled out for the people who bought them. They would take these cards and purchase the outlawed alcohol.

Cars were a new thing in the 1920’s. They would be used more than horse and wagon for the simple reason of practicality. During this time many saw the automobile as a money making machine. Originally the use of car and truck was new to the public, since they became widely available at this time, they were used for anything, especially transportation of alcohol. What started out as moving illegal goods became much more. Eventually the police would catch on to this, and many people would fall victim to the black market craze. Humans are always learning, so people began to devise ways to modify their cars. They would make them faster. The cars would be modified to outrun the police and help cut down on the “busts”.

NASCAR is a sport that involves the racing of modified cars around a track two hundred times, whoever comes in first at the last lap wins first place. The cars are heavily maintained and need extensive care to operate. The drivers are highly skilled and learn how to adapt to any situation that may occur. Many men have died in this sport, being one of the most dangerous. The car crashes can result in the drivers being severely hurt or dying on impact. With a fast car comes modifications, the cars in NASCAR travel extremely fast due to the extensive changes made. Most of the car is taken out and the bare minimum is left. This makes the car faster.

The engine is one of the most important parts of a car. It makes it actually drive. There are a vast amount of modifications that can be done to an engine to achieve its full amount of horse power. Horse power is a unit of measurement that is based on five hundred and fifty pounds a second. The cars back in the day are nothing like the cars of today but like all cars, they have an engine. The cars were modified back in the day by ripping the old engine out and putting a more powerful one in or changing the parts used. Most of the time, the bigger the engine the faster a car will go. With that being said, cars were stripped down for weight reduction and equipped with larger engines.

The foundation of NASCAR and other sports like it would be laid during this era. People began to modify cars not only to evade the police but to race. This would give birth to a whole new sport that many enjoy. The story goes, that the moonshiners down in the southern states would get together and race their moded cars. After the Prohibition, the races would continue and eventually be recognized as a sport.

People never think of the other counties that benefited from the American Prohibition. Canada, and Mexico gained the most wealth. The countries citizens would either produce or distribute alcohol across the United States border. During the winter, the great lakes would freeze and cars would be able to drive over them with the alcoholic goods. The Mexico/ American border was not as built up as it is today, so trafficking was easier. People would bring over the products through customs or drive over. Both countries used ships to smuggle the alcoholic goods also. The products would be hidden and taken out when they reached their destination. The nations themselves did not benefit from this, BUT, the their citizens did.

Definition Argument-Jadden14

Creatine is one of the most widely used and effective supplements for better muscular endurance and overall strength progression. Creatine is one of the most effective supplements an athlete can take to help develop size and strength, overall increasing their abilities within their sport. Due to the many misconceptions surrounding the substance, parents and coaches sometimes fear that it could have negative effects on the body and greatly affect the athlete’s lives in the long run.

Creatine is a naturally occuring molecule produced in the body. It’s commonly found in fish, meat, and is also made by the human body. A study from Examine.com found that phosphocreatine in the body, which is then released into the body, causing the strength increase after the use of creatine as a supplement. Creatine is often considered a questionable topic as people do not know what the side effects of taking the supplement are. Now, there are a few forms of creatine known, but in this case the creatine I will be talking about is creatine monohydrate. It’s one of the cheapest forms, and the most effective. One of the major side effects from taking creatine is that it is very water retentive. Depending on the dosage, creatine makes the body retain water, in the form of weight. Almost any dosage of creatine will lead to water retention, but the severity varies on the dosage. Due to this, if the user does not drink enough water, this can lead to stomach cramps. The fact that it adds on weight might not affect athletes, as they are constantly active and will probably be burning it off anyway, however, to the normal person this weight gain may be a problem. Another plausable side effect is the fact that creatine increases DHT in the body. This DHT increase can be linked to male pattern baldness, but make note that genetics play a key role in that as well. Depression may also come as a side effect of creatine, as it relates to seratonin.

As far as athletic performance is concerned, creatine is one of the best supplements an athlete can take, next to protein. In a study from the University of Maryland, “Preliminary studies show that creatine supplements improve strength and lean muscle mass during high-intensity, short-duration exercises.” Creatine is found to be most effective in young adults, as adept lifters tend to gain muscle easier. Creatine’s strength benefits alone would make it great for football players. Over time, they would gain mass slightly better and be much stronger, fully utilizing their muscle’s potential. They would be more efficient on the field, and be much more alert. Most natural athletes will add about 5 to 10 pounds to their lifts each month with an optimal diet and training regime. Creatine can in some cases increase that rate by 5 pounds, which is astounding for a non-anabolic supplement. Athletes will need to be careful with their dosage on these supplements, as there is a good medium with creatine and shouldn’t be misused. Athletes have the option to load creatine, taking up to 20g a day, spaced out, or could just take 5-10g a day. Any more than this amount is unessessary and can lead to problems.

Creatine with its very plausible and concerning side effects, also has its health benefits. Some studies have shown that creatine can counteract fatigue, very helpful in running and other sports that are cardio-intensive. This study tends to have mixed results, so it is safe to say that it can possibly benefit runners/sprinters. It also leads to the possible spike in testosterone levels, naturally of course. This increase in testosterone will undoubtably benefit weight lifters, as it will ultimately increase strength and muscle mass. Creatine can also be used as a cure for traumatic brain injury patients, children and adolescents are shown to get reduced frequency of headaches when taking the supplement. Due to it’s stength increase and mass increasing nature, it can help treat people with diseases related to muscle weakness, like muscular dystrophy.

The main issue with creatine is deciding whether or not its plausible side effects make it unsafe for athletes. One of the biggest issues is the fact that it could possibly enhance male pattern baldness, but only in those who have the genetic issue. Weighing out all of the pros and cons of taking the supplement, creatine really is more effective than it is harmful for the user. In the case of athletes, I argue it is beneficial for them. Even though it is prohibited by the NCAA to be given to athletes, I highly recommend that they take it as it will help them in their athletic careers. By just taking 5g a day, they will become much stronger and retain lean mass, not to mention the endurance benefits. In this case, such a small dosage minimalizes any side effects, and probably will be the safest and most effective dosage. I personally have used creatine in this dosage for months, and reaped the rewards with no side effects whatsoever. It really matters what the dosage is, as the reasons behind why there are issues surrounding the supplement are due to the fact that people take such large dosages. Yes, people taking creatine are more suseptible to liver issues if 20g of creatine every day is taken. Death can also occur from eating too much sugar in life, and get issues like heart disease. It’s all about finding the proper, healthy dosage.

Definition Argument – collegegirl

There are many young black men who have a difficult time finding out who there are and figuring out how to be successful in life due to the fact that the world we live in today with violence and police brutality in the back of their mind. In 2014, Barack Obama began a movement called My Brother’s Keeper which provided young black men of color the support they need to think broadly about their future. The question that everyone wanted answers to was if Obama was going to continue this movement after his term as President was over.

As previously stated, the goal for this movement was to help young black men reach their goals and their success in the future. Many wondered if Obama will continue this movement after leaving office. Well, if you didn’t think he was going to continue this movement, you’re wrong. Obama showed how passionate he was about the movement during an interview with Dawn Porter. She explained how even though she has watched and read all of Obama’s speeches about the movement, she was still surprised of how passionate and personal he took the movement. In the interview, Obama also verified that he agreed to continue the movement even after he left office.

Because Obama agreed to continue the movement, this has shown how passionate he was about the movement. But, what if Obama did not continue the movement. Would others take on the responsible of leading the movement. If Obama did not continue the movement, there would not be as much success as it has now.

I have been thinking about changing my ENTIRE topic for my research paper. We spoke in my student meeting about writing about the Obama MBK movement. I was going to write about how the MBK movement only lasted while Obama was our President. But in fact, after doing some research, the MBK movement is still happening through Obama even though he is now out of office. So what’s my argument now? Should I take entire new route with a whole new topic. One idea, is to compare Trump and Obama’s in office effectiveness with young children. But, would this be 3,000 words of writing? I need LOTS of help. I feel as though I don’t even have a real “thesis” statement.
