*** I need to find a few book sources***

Topic: Prohibition.

Thesis: The Prohibition was started to outlaw alcohol but boosted illegal activity helping to create the sport of NASCAR.

My topic is not one of the average topics listed by my peers. The topic is about how during the American Prohibition, the outlaw of alcohol was in place, it was impossible to get any kind of liquor or beer. This would boost illegal activity from gangs forming in the major cities, to alcohol runners. The Alcohol runners were men that smuggled alcohol in modified cars that could max the speed limit. These cars were built to run from the cops.

https://www.theguardian.com/film/2012/aug/26/lawless-prohibition-gangsters-speakeasies

This source indicates how the laws set in place for the legalization of alcohol did not work. It explains how gangsters became popular and how more illegal activity had commenced. It goes from the beginning of the amendment to its end.

It proves that illegal activities increased when the laws were enacted. These gangsters would run cities. The most well known of the gangsters was Al Capone. He owned Chicago.

https://www.carkeys.co.uk/news/the-story-of-how-moonshiners-created-the-performance-car

This source explains how alcohol smugglers would modify their cars so they can outrun the police. Basically this is how the performance cars were first created and how science and skill perfected these cars.

It proves that the prohibition had a mark on modified cars and sparked the interest of a whole new movement. This movement would age into one of Americas coolest sports, NASCAR.

http://theroaringtwentieshistory.blogspot.com/2010/06/prohibition-and-speakeasies.html

This source shows that illegal activity boosted with these laws in place. The links talks about how secret bars were created in towns and cities so that the people could still drink. Passwords and other forms of identification were used to keep the bars running. Music and liquor was the most important part of these bars. In big cities many gangsters created these bars and generated a ton of money from them.

This proves that the laws did not really work and boosted the illegal business of U.S. citizens. Many broke the law because it ruined the lives of small town business but also helped make many very wealthy.

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/during-prohibition-your-doctor-could-write-you-prescription-booze-180947940/

This source explains how doctors during the prohibition would break the rules and proscribe their patients with alcohol. The source indicates that many doctors would prescribe people with this so they could get alcohol. This in turn would be illegal.

This proves that the medical profession also was against the law and broke the law.

http://prohibitionincanada.blogspot.com/p/smuggling-bootegging-and-something.html

This source shows that a lot of the alcohol that was used in the United States was bootlegged from Canada. The modified cars were used to smuggled these drinks over the border in the winter time. These men would drive over the lakes to make a profit. ships were also used as well. Many shipments were hidden.

This proves that other nations benefited off the law that lasted an era. People would break the law and commit illegal acts to make a profit. Business was good, and the rick was worth the reward. These cars were the great grandfathers to today’s NASCAR cars.

0:01- A dark grey or black colored CJ-7 Jeep shows up on screen. It is sporting a spare tire. The driver is wearing a large black hat and warm cloths. The soft top is off of the Jeep but it looks cold out. A sticker with an ape is on the back next to the spare tire. The sky is gloomy and the person is going off roading. It is either later in the day or early in the morning based on the sky.

0:03- The film cuts to the front windshield looking out on the hood. On the center mirror, a bigfoot cut out is hung. The Jeep is going over bumps because the cut out is swinging.

0:04- The Jeep is confirmed to be a CJ-7 based on the head lights it sports. Their is stock fog lights on the bumper and the licence plate is white with black lettering. The plate reads BF-THR. The Jeep is completely stock except for the ugly chrome windshield hinges. The woods is gloomy and a light bit of fog is rolling across the ground.

0:05- The camera angle is above the Jeep. The Jeep is a manual 5 speed without the center council. The shifter nob is black and its in 3rd gear. That means it is not moving fast, at most 35mph. On the stock bucket seat, there is a map, a pair of binoculars, and an iphone. In the passenger floor well, are a pair of dirty work gloves. The floor well does not appear to be rusted out, a typical problem with this Jeep model. The Jeep seems to be in good condition.  The driver is wearing warm cloths. A message comes up on the screen of the phone.

0:10- The camera is acting as the eyes of the driver. The driver looks down at this phone and unlocks it to view the message. He does not seem to look up while driving. Being unsafe.

0:14- The Jeep is barreling down the trail and the leaf springs on the Jeep and the shocks are pretty stiff. Meaning that they were replaced not to long ago. The driver is looking down at his phone not paying attention. A hairy creature walks out in front of the Jeep dodging the SUV.

0:16- The driver types a message on his Iphone, not paying attention to the trail.

0:17- The driver looks forward, watching the road. He did not see the hairy creature. He missed the encounter with whatever the creature was.

0:18-  A message appears on the screen, “Just enough time to miss bigfoot”

0:20 Bigfoot walks infront of the screen as the Jeep continues to drive down the path.

0:23 “And so much more” comes up on the screen.

The purpose of this video is to show that a lot of things can happen or be missed when using a cellphone while driving.  The producer of the video shows how being distracted can effect ones life in may ways.

E03 Critical Reading – Killroy513

Section 2

Killroy, you were assigned Section 7, several times, aloud, in class, MON SEP 25.

“Now, he’s rounder, heavier, bearded, and long-haired,”

Claim- He different in his original appearance.

-Many Veterans after service do not abide by AR670-1 physical appears codes. They go back to civilian life. A veteran can be anyone around you and you would not even be able to tell.

“obviously tough even if he weren’t prone to wearing a COMBAT INFANTRYMAN cap, but still not the guy you picture when you see his “Disabled Veteran” license plates.

Claim: Caleb is still as strong as he was but has changed.

-Many veterans take pride in serving in the military. Most wear hats displaying their unit, branch or time of service. The hat depicted in the reading is one that displays that the man saw combat as an infantryman. 11B MOS’s are rifleman that are in the heat of combat a good portion of the time. They are the infantry. Many things can be seen serving in the military and they are exposed to most of it. Even though someone isnt physically wounded, the thoughts of what was seen can mentally scare you for the rest of your life. This is basically what PTSD is.

“Not the old ‘Nam guy with a limp, or maybe the young legless Iraq survivor, that you’d expect.”

Claim: Not the typical disabled veteran.

-Many soldiers from the Vietnam war returned disabled, some physically and some mentally. Being in the heat of combat is different for everyone. It effects people in different ways. You could be physically wounded or mentally wounded. These wounds never truly seem to heal because the scares are left as a reminder.

Is PTSD Contagious?

Summaries- Killroy513

  1. It seems counter intuitive that someone who has not been to war claimed to get PTSD.  PTSD is post traumatic stress disorder and it mostly is found in veterans that return from war time. It is not contagious because it is trauma that occurs to ones self during a specific event. The Spouses of people suffering from PTSD can get symptoms of depression and other problems that can affect their everyday life.

2. It seems counter intuitive that Canada would give drug abusers more of the same drugs they are hooked on to cure them. People that use illegal drugs or abuse drugs are trying to escape from reality because they can not deal with it. Giving them drugs only continues the addiction that they caused to themselves. Once you start abusing drugs there is always a feeling to go back.

3. It seems counter intuitive that you would not put armor on the places most shot up by anti air or machines on a plane but put it in other places. The logic behind this is that the places shot up in planes that return safely means that those places are not important. This means that other places that were not exposed are armored to prevent any serious damage to the plane. This study was conducted by a Hungarian mathematician and proves plausible.

Stone Money—Killroy513

Money is one of the most important things in this world.  It makes the world go round. There is many different forms of money used around the world, its value is recognized by its significance. For the Yap people their currency is made up of lime stone rocks carved into cylinders. These rocks would be decorated and customized for whoever had them made. These stones, being huge in size, would not move from its final placement. The Yap people relied on word of mouth for financial records. This is almost like today’s modern credit system. Our credit system is based on invisible money that appears electronically.

Currency can be anything, as long as it has value to whomever wants it. In the past money was made of preshes metals. Gold was the most saute after currency since it does not really loose its value. Most countries used gold to back their paper currency. The United States of America used gold to back the currency. During the Great Depression, many countries wanted to insure their assets would be secured. France being one of them, wanted to secure its credit in gold. The United States dived the French shares. Eventually this would change. The gold would not be used to back the currency’s value. This would start the modern day system of credit.

Inflation is good and bad for an economy.  To much inflation is bad because it discredits the moneys worth. Prices for everyday goods would jump. An example of this is Brazil. It had to much inflation and no one had money to buy the things they need. Eventually the currency was changed and the economy leveled out. This made it better for the Brazilian people.

In the end money is truly one of the most important things to have. It can be anything as long as it retains its value.
