Proposal+5 – Princess45

For my research paper, I chose the counterintuitive topic of freedom of speech, freedom of speech concerning out president. Donald J. Trump has multiple times gone on television and has said basically whatever he wants too. He has cursed, called people out and has said things without thinking twice about them. Also Trump’s tweets have been taken to a whole new level.

  1. http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/14/politics/nancy-pelosi-donald-trump-axe-files/index.html

The Essential Content of the article: Explains how Trump says everything and anything, shows how he says major announcements casually which is not how they should be announced.

What it Proves: Trump has no experience, and has not accomplished high presidential standards.

2. http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/15/politics/tillerson-sotu-tapper-moron-cnntv/index.html

The Essential Content of the article: Trump has or may have not been called a moron by a government official. It has now became more important then any economic or political issue going on right now in our country.

What It Proves: Trump can call an NFL football player a “Son of a Bitch” and it is seemingly okay? But, as soon as the tables are reversed all hell breaks loose. There is no freedom of speech for the famous, the celebrities, or anyone in the public eye. They get bashed and hate for speaking freely, but it is okay for our PRESIDENT to say and do whatever it is that he wants.

3. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-puts-iran-nuclear-deal-hands-congress-n810366

The Essential Content of the article: Trump threatens to terminate Iran deal if it is not strengthened, because they ruined “the spirit of it”. Iran warns U.S. not to terminate deal, no one will ever trust U.S. again. Trump is forcing congress to better the deal.

What it Proves: Trump makes it clear that he can do whatever he wants. He can say and do whatever he wants because “he is the President”

4. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-attacks-puerto-rico-threatens-pull-emergency-responders-n810036

The Essential Content of the article: Trump has again bashed Puerto Rico in a tweet. Trump claimed that the consequences of the hurricane are because of them and threatens to pull federal emergency management.

What It Proves: Trump is treating Puerto Rico as if they’re second-class citizens. Trump gets away with tweeting negative things about Americans. He again makes it clear that he can do whatever he wants because he is the president.

5. https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/americas-heroin-epidemic/drug-overdose-deaths-rise-dramatically-places-president-trump-calls-home-n810186

The Essential Content of the article: Trump again slams another state. Trump trashes New Hampshire when he describes it as a “drug infested den”. Two moths ago he acted on the presidential opioid commission and declared the crisis as a national emergency and still has not done anything to put the plan in action.

What it Proves: Our president should not be trashing our country in any way. He freely says unprofessional things without any question of it. Trump has also not acted on several of his promises.

0:01- 0:05 This video starts out valentines day 2015. The Beach is being shown, it is clearly a hot day in what seems to be California or a warm state as there are many people on the beach and boardwalk. There is a man and a woman running separate ways

0:06-0:08- Civilians are being shown walking and shopping to prepare for this special day. A big bouquet of valentines day balloons flashes across the screen.

0:09-0:11-There is a crowd of people in what seems to be the middle of a city and they are all looking at a stage. On this stage there are two people behind an x ray screen kissing. You cannot see who each person is or what they look like, all you can see is their skeletons.

0:12- 0:17- The crowd of people can be seen whispering back and fourth and looking around in confusion. They are trying to figure out who these two people behind the screen are and what they are doing. The civilians are trying to figure out the point of this.

0:18-0:22- The couple behind the screen stop kissing and begin to separate. The are walking to the outsides of the screen when a woman peeks her head out. She smiles to everyone.

0:23-0:25- The other person behind the screen begins to peak their head out as well and it is another woman. Both white woman.

0:26-0:28- A woman in the crowd is shocked. She seems to be shocked in a good way along with the rest of the crowd. People are seen clapping as the couple kisses and hugs for the crowd.

0:29-0:33- The crowd is continuing to show their approval as the couple stands proud for their relationship, as “love has no gender” is being shown next to them. The couple seems a little shy and surprised in a good way as everyone continues to show their support for them.

0:34-0:38- Another pair is being shown dancing behind the X ray screen. Again we cannot see what they look like, only the same two skeletons as before.

0:39-0:45- The begin to walk their separate ways, out first comes a woman and she is black. On the other side comes out a man but he seems to be asian. As they meet the kiss for everyone and again the crowd roars and supports their relationship.

0:46-0:48- The crowd is clearly getting the point of this project as the words “Love has no race” appears on the screen next to the couple standing proud of who they are and loving who they want too.

0:49-0:53- Again there are two people behind the X- Ray screen and they are being shown dancing as well. One person begins to walk out and it appears to be a young girl who has autism.

0:54-0:58- Another young girl walks up and stands next to her holding her hand high as the crowd goes wild as the words “love has no disabilities” appears on the screen next to them.

0:59-1:03-  This time on the screen shows three people, what seems to be two adults and one child dancing and having fun behind the screen. They begin to split to come out for the crowd and a black man holding hands with a little boy comes out and smiles bright for the crowd.

1:04-1:08Another black man comes out from the other side of the screen, grabs hands with the child and kisses his husband. A man in the crowd throws his arms up in excitement and approval for the couple. They stand there proud as the words “love has no gender” appears on the screen next to them. Again the crowd roars.

1:09-1:16- Two small skeletal figures are behind the screen playing hand games and hugging. Two small girls, one white, one asian, appear on stage and meet in the middle to hug as “love has no race” appears on the screen next to them as the crowd goes up in applause for them.

1:17- 1:20- Two Skeletal figures are being showed bowing to each other. The both come out from behind the screen and there is a white woman wearing a cross on her neck and an indian woman wearing her cultural attire. They again bow to each other and begin to dance as “love has no religion” flashes on the screen next to them. Again the crowd goes wild.

1:21-1:24- Two men of different religions meet on the stage to shake hands. The crowd smiles and applauses in approval as “love has no religion” appears on the screen next to them

1:25-1:30- The video ends as “love has no labels” flashes on the screen ending this project. Love has no genders, love has no race, love has no religion, love has no labels. This is something each and ever human being needs to learn to accept, love has no labels and people can love whoever they want despite social norms or peoples expectations.

Money is Value

How do you answer the simple yet difficult question, what is money? Growing up I thought money was what you needed to do everything and anything. I always thought money was worth so much! I would ask my popop for dollars all the time and I thought I was rich! Then I realized my poppop had other kinds of dollars with larger numbers and I was confused as to why some things could be one or two dollars and something else could be five or ten and so on. As a little kid I would run around with the dollar showing everyone what I had received and then someone told me to save it so I could start a college fund. Confused, I said okay and put the dollar somewhere safe, not know that that dollar would decrease in value every day.

Now if you were to ask me that same question now, I would answer. Well the definition of money is a current medium of exchange in the form of coins and banknotes collectively. But how can that be true if we have things such as credit cards and electronic banking where there is no physical exchange? In the stonemoneyessay.pdf it states “A noteworthy feature of this stone currency … is that it is not necessary for it’s owner to reduce it for possession. After completing a bargain which involves the price of a fei to large to be conveniently moved, it’s new owner is quite content to accept the bare acknowledgment without so much as a mark to indicate the exchange, the coin remains undisturbed on the former owner’s premises.”  But how can that money have a new owner if the old owner still technically owns it?

For example, again as it states in stoneymoneyessay.pdf  “When the German received ownership of the Caroline Islands, after the purchase of them from Spain in 1898 many of the paths and highways were in bad condition and the chiefs of the many districts were told that they have them repaired and put in good order. Coral was good for the natives and many were the repetitions of the command, which still remained unheated.” At last it was decided to impose a fine of disobedience on the chiefs of the districts… The fine was extracted by sending a man to every failu and pabai throughout the disobedient districts, where he simply marked a number on the most valuable fei with a cross in black paint to show that the stones were owned by the government. This worked like a charm and the people thus dolefully impoverished… Then the government dispatched its agents and erased the cross and the fine is paid.

Stone money and numbers in your bank account are the exact same thing. Just because you do not have that money in your sight or touch doesn’t mean that that money is not yours. As long as everyone knows that you are now the rightful owner of the stone, it is yours.

E03: Critical Reading – Princess 45

Section 13

“The amount of progress in Caleb’s six years of therapy has been frustrating for everyone. “

  • Caleb has been in therapy for six years
  • He has been making minimal progress

“we have reason to be reasonably optimistic. Psychotherapy does work for typical PTSD.” The VA tends to favor cognitive-behavioral therapy and exposure therapy—whereby traumatic events are hashed out and rehashed until they become, theoretically, less consuming. Some state VA offices also offer group therapy. For severe cases, the agency offers inpatient programs, one of which Caleb resided in for three months in 2010.

  • We can have hope, psychotherapy has been proven to work for PTSD.
  • There are multiple methods but the VA prefers the cognitive-behavioral therapy and exposure therapy.
  • Other methods: group therapy, for severe cases: inpatient programs

‘The VA also endorses eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), which is based on the theory that memories of traumatic events are, in effect, improperly stored, and tries to refile them by discussing those memories while providing visual or auditory stimulus.”

  • EMDR also offered by the VA is based off the theory that memories of traumatic are in effect but improperly stored and attempted to be restored.

“There’s a fairly strong consensus around CBT and EMDR,” Brunet says. While veterans are waiting for those to work, they’re often prescribed complicated antidepressant-based pharmacological cocktails.”

  • There seem to be a lot of people who agree with CBT and EMDR
  • While veterans are depending on the progress of CBT and EMDR they’re prescribed antidepressant based pills with who knows what else is in them

“Currently, the agency is funding 130 PTSD-related studies, from testing whether hypertension drugs might help to examining the effectiveness of meditation therapy, or providing veterans with trauma-sensitive service dogs, like Caleb’s. The Mental Health Research Portfolio manager says the organization is “highly concerned and highly supportive” of PTSD research.”

  • The VA is very concerned about their PTSD patients and are researching all methods
  • Testing of drugs to increase effectiveness of therapy’s
  • Testing if service dogs are an alternative
  • Health Research Portfolio is concerned and supportive of their PTSD research

“But a lot of FOV members and users are impatient with the progress. Up until 2006, the VA was spending $9.9 million, just 2.5 percent of its medical and prosthetic research budget, on PTSD studies. In 2009, funding was upped to $24.5 million. But studies take a long time, and any resulting new directives take even longer to be implemented.”

  • Family of Vet members are impatient with progress of the different therapy’s
  • The concern for PTSD victims has risen and funding for research has been upped
  • Research and validating new methods take time and anything proven to help will still have to be put into action

Purposeful Summaries—Princess45

It seems counterintuitive that there are so many nuclear power plants in the U.S when we are constantly being told of how harmful they can be to us. Global warming has constantly been an issue in our world and it will continue to be as long as there are people on this planet. Nuclear power plants can be extremely dangerous if anything were to happen and became out of control. These plants from an alternate source of energy without the high levels of greenhouse gases from fossil fuels but there are a lot of costs and questions such as where and how will there be a proper disposal of waste? How safe are they? and what are the consequences of a disaster in a populated area? Not only are these power plants dangerous to the environment but they are dangerous to us as humans. The talk of Nuclear power plants has been around for years and it will continue to be as long as global warming is a current issue.

It seems counterintuitive that a New York assembly man who’s daughter has needed two transplants is is fighting to increase the number of organ donations by trying to change the voluntary organ donation system to a presumed consent. This means that you would  automatically be an organ donor unless you opt out. Monique Sneed has a mother who has just been told that she needs a transplant and she is a donor herself but doesn’t believe in the presumed consent. She chooses to wait for someone who voluntarily wants to help and that it would still not lead to 100% donation. The presumed consent has failed in two states.

It seems counterintuitive that the FDA does not regulate the labeling of supplements. So do multivitamins really work?  There is virtually be no evidence that multivitamins actually make healthy people healthier. Some multivitamins have been proven to do more damage than benefits. The vitamin shop has 700 million in annual sales and has been growing year after year, and just recently there has been multiple studies that show that you could be “Pissing your money away”.  Just last June manufactures were forced to put a label on multivitamins relating the “health risks”. How can there be heath risks if they are just natural vitamins that our bodies need? Not all companies police their labels well and it was found that 60 common multivitamins found fault with their labels. Most people will have adequate nutrient intake with their daily eating.

Lessons in Coaching

0:01-0:02 – The video starts off showing a man on the screen with a heavy shadowed background. As it begins to play the man appears to be very close up and angry. He is coaching a hockey team. He asks if everyone is here to play hockey and is speaking in a negative tone.

0:03-0:07 – He then yells “I am not here to coach a bunch of cheerleader’s, I need men!”

0:08-0:13 – He continues “Hit and hit hard!” You start to notice that the man is getting younger. “I don’t ever want to see one of my players back down from a fight!” The man is no longer a man, he is now a teen-aged boy.

0:14-0:18 – “I want to see blood out there! Either take it like a man or take a seat on the bench!” The boy continues to get younger and you begin to think, what is the lesson here? What seems to be happening.

0:19-0:22 – “Is that clear?” The little boy ends with.  You realize that along with the face of the man the voice of the man changes as well. But not only those things changed the whole perspectives changed.

0:23-0:28 – “As adults we need to be careful about the lessons we teach” Flashes across the screen. As I was saying the whole perspective changed and it was no longer the adult saying these things to his team, it was a teammate saying it to another teammate or child.

0:29-0:30 – National campaign against youth violence.  As adults we need to realize that we influence kids of all ages and they look up to us and it is our job to be mindful of the things we are teaching them.
