0:00-0:01 The ad opens up with a scene of a beautiful nature scene. You are looking over some type of hill/ mountain.

0:01-0:03 next we see a rabbit running seems excited/desperate. the scene opens up to see a garden with a scarecrow and plentiful crops.

0:04-0:05 following this we see the rabbit run from up close after a while he stops. we can see that her is facing the viewer and has his hand in almost a welcoming state. he is standing in the garden because we can see the crops and lettuce. the rabbit waves to come as he walks away toward the garden. It seems he was asking the deer to come.

0:06-0:11 The scene opens up to see a variety of animals coming through the gate of the garden many of which are walking like humans. the animal that come in were pigs, squirrels, and other rabbits. these animals start to pick out these crops from the ground. some of the rabbits start to eat the crops and these vegetation seems fresh.

0:12-0:15 the animals are delighted dancing in the food.

0:18-0:22 a phrase pops up on the screen cook it, store it, share it. the words just don’t waste it pop up as the rabbits are excitingly throwing up the food in the air. i believe it could be saying don’t be wasteful like them in this image.

0:23- 0:25 next we see one rabbit walk into what could be his home with a huge amount of crops in his hands. the rabbit drops the food into the floor to share with four other rabbits.

0:25-0:35 the words better ate then never appear on the screen. i believe that this ad is telling us just that in America well as other countries we waste so much food because of the fact we can. with hundreds of thousands homeless and hungry, we are taking from the fact we could be helping these people. From an audience point of view this ad seemed too playful to inspire. many people would just think this was a cute ad but not really impact.

Needs a Title

While there are many law protecting the right of humans there aren’t as many laws protecting animals. Our country has made great effort in the past to protect animals once it has become severe. what i mean by this is we push our selves to make it our job to protect animals after we’ve done serve damage. an example would be hunting exotic animal until almost extinction. With our new technology and innovations as well as social media helping support our causes for equal rights for all. why do companies still test on animals.

So,  the question is why do companies test on animals? why is there a small percentage of us doing something about it? Well the main reason companies claim to test on animals is to check if the products are safe. on of the biggest acts of testing on animals come from the cosmetic industry. the matter of the fact is the U.s in 2014 used over 100 million animals including rats, mice birds, agricultural animals , and reptiles. of these 100 million many died so we have to think what are in these products that we use today?  Especially in cosmetic productions for our skin, hair, and eyes what are putting on. these animals are being misused for our sake. we are allowing these animals to be abused, be misused, harming them by causing them pain, illness, and cancers.

So in terms of cosmetic products why do they use animals when their products are made for humans? well while researching, I have found that although we have different skin types companies are always trying to expand new products. Companies use animals because they are allowed to it is cheaper and it comes with less consequences then testing on animals. if the statistics of animals that got diseases, cancer, skin rashes/burns, and died were switched with human testing. the amount of death would be substantial.

Although many companies claim not to be using animals for testing that could be indeed a lie. companies are not required to put on the label whether they actually test on animals or not. Some brands that test today are Avon, Clinique, Estée Lauder, maybeline, Make up forever, and the most well heard of Victoria’s Secret.

What is scarier is this funding for testing is funded by us . shocking right many people are against this yet do not know that they are unconsciously helping the companies they hate. one way people fund this form of testing is that we have and incredible amount of people still buying these products. as stated in an article by PETA, “Through their taxes, charitable donations, and purchases of lottery tickets and consumer products, members of the public are ultimately the ones who—knowingly or unknowingly—fund animal experimentation. ”

An important scenario to think about is we do not just use animals to cosmetics but also medicine. for example we use pregnant animals to test birth control. what happens is Companies take these pregnant animals force them to take the medicine. Some die, some don’t if the animals lives we check to see if there animals have any side effects. if the animal die we take another and try again. Now how cruel does it sound that after one animal dies, we don’t stop right there. Instead companies dispose of these dead “lab participants” and bring in another countless times until we get it right. similar to most i believe it would be better to test on animals for medical research only just because it was safer then testing on us. through my research i found i was wrong, as an article by PETA states, “Diseases that are artificially induced in animals in a laboratory, whether they be mice or monkeys, are never identical to those that occur naturally in human beings. And because animal species differ from one another biologically in many significant ways, it becomes even more unlikely that animal experiments will yield results that will be correctly interpreted and applied to the human condition in a meaningful way.” so doing so what is the point we are just wasting these animals lives over and over and over again.

i believe we should ban animal testing worldwide. many countries made it a law that they must test before putting anything n their shelves. Countries like China enforce this law. although this might be difficult because people dont want to stop buying these brands which they continuously use daily. this is not impossible. if we come together and spread awareness, we could force these companies to undergo other ways of testing and also save the livef

PTSD Claims- pATricKStar123

SECTION 5

1. “Trauma is a contagious disease; it affects everyone that has close contact with a traumatized person”

Living with someone with PTSD can be very stressful. Especially if you have to see someone you care about and are close with deal with such a burden. They may have flashback and not remember you and or they may become violent. This could lead you to have anxiety around them waiting for their next episode. It could make you feel unsafe and on edge as stated in the article. If you have younger children like they can be affected  making them scared too or even mimic activities done. In this quote, Robert Motta, a clinical psychologist and psychology professor at Hofstra University calls trauma a disease. Now this I believe is a bit too far as it could affect others Trauma is more of a mental illness. It’s not contagious because it is not yet proven. Although, we look at couple of cases that say yes. There are still more then have a percentage that say no it is not contagious.

2. Katie doesn’t sound sure, or like she remembers exactly. One thing she’s positive of: “She just made me…so. MAD.” Brannan asks Katie to name some of the alternatives. “Walk away, get the teacher, yes ma’am, no ma’am,” Katie dutifully responds to the prompts. She looks disappointed in herself.

This quote describes a situation that happened in school with Caleb’s and Brannan’s  daughter Katie. Katie got in trouble for spitting on another classmate. When asked why she did so by her mom she doesn’t recall. Katie just remembers being mad. Katie at home always is kind and cheerful. It’s almost like Katie blacks out like her father Caleb. Her behavior mimics the violent outburst that her dad out have during his episiode which could give evidence to they claim of PTSD be contagious but the studies would need more support.

3. Secondary traumatic stress has been documented in the spouses of veterans with PTSD from Vietnam. And the spouses of Israeli veterans with PTSD, and Dutch veterans with PTSD. In one study, the incidence of secondary trauma in wives of Croatian war vets with PTSD was 30 percent. In another study there, it was 39 percent.

Although studies where shown they never really analyzies or mention how the studies were conducted. Even with there facts of the percent of veterans wives affected was 39 percent in one study and 30 in another, these results are way too low to be certain of anything. This fact could be descredited by having to small of a study as well as comparing to studies with each other.

Stone money—paTRicKStar

As I listened to the story of the people of yap, I tried to compare their curriency with ours.  The people the yap use form of currency that involves limestones.  These limestones are very heavy and are and abnormally large for currency. The way these limestones were acquired  was athe people of the yap would travel to a nearby island full of them. Upon arriving, they basically pick up the limestone put it on their raft sell back to their island and gain this form of currency. Now people wouldn’t just trade this limestone currency for just anything. They were mostly used for big purchases. Now compared to modern day society, our societies curriency is paper money. The paper money we have is back by gold. In the past we used to trade with gold and silver. For us hearing people are trading giant stones as currency sounds absurd. But to the people of yap these stones are worth it. Money is a human invention that  had a set value which killed off trading. Before money we would trade goods and commodities for other goods and services.

The invention of money just makes sense to me. It makes it portable, equal and universal. What I mean by this is we no longer have to barter good everyone knows the set amount. They understand the value of it and it could be used internationally. While listening to the podcast I was intrigued yet confused because with the people of yap you can have the value of the curriency without having the currency present. This idea blows my mind.

Now I’m our society we have banks to prove our curriency and show how much money we have. Although our curriencys are different and the way we handle our money is odd to the people of yap. Our main concepts are similar. Money, stone, checks and all forms of curriency are worth nothing without us giving value to these items. In our society today money controls everything ;money is power. The amount of money you have determines which class you are in our society. So essentially money does have a bigger role than just paper and a way to barter. Your net worth and the amount money you have does matter.

The reason  money has power is because we give it it’s worth. Think of it like the people of the yap they gave an in adamant object just like we did to paper money , value. Therefore setting a standard for people to except this idea.   The only difference between us and the people of the app is we made our money portable, tangible, and international. Our money can be used in exchange worldwide., Have a set value, NV easy to transport.  With the people you have the only problem with their ideas of currency was that you didn’t need to lose the currency to lose your value I could handle that I’m out of value of the asset without having the ass it with me which is a little hard to understand but it seems very absurd how can you be rich but have no money this is what we said fourth ofthe change

After listening  to the  podcast called how fake funny Siri Brazil. I was mostly confused with the concept. The narrator talked about how inflation was high and in reality kept increasing daily. What confused me was when they tried to get people to spend money to boost the economy by  lying to them to think that their money did have value when in fact inflation was so high it was worth less. I understand that people were scared to buy since they though maybe keeping their money would be safer but that would make the economy worse. How they tried to lie to people confused me.

Recently I’ve heard a lot of discussion on the news involving cryptocurrency called bitcoin. With this interesting topic of stone money. I am eager to learn more about our newest form of currency and see how it does.

Hypothesis

College students are at a high risk for mental health issues in the U.S.

Source 1

http://www.bu.edu/today/2016/mental-health-college-students/

The article explains how there has been an increase in the level of mental illness in college students everywhere. It also specifies this increase to Boston university and shows how they have saw an increase in their students with mental health issues.  Article explains which students are a higher risk. The students members of the LGBQT community are one of the groups because of how hard it might be to explain who they are. Another  person are the international students , they may find a challenging to relate to a socially with others coming from a different background.  Finally students who come from smaller high schools and transfer  to bigger colleges because this may find it harder to interact and fit in. This can cause then to feel alone and depressed.  Along with the stats of increasing mental illness, the article gives signs of mental illness they state if a personal starts to withdraw from social groups, starts sleeping more, has an increase in the substance-abuse, gives away all their possessions, and or starts posting suicidal related posts on social media and they are showing signs.  As we know learning and becoming aware it’s just one of the stops we could help but nothing is ever simple.  Most students don’t report because they don’t want to or they have fear of communicating but of the ones that do shows of shocking amount of mental illness.  Number is a referral to treatment at Boston University into thousand 14 and 2015 was 1,587.  In 2015 and 2016 number referred to treatment was 1,640. I stayed in mental health services are costly. This means students struggling financially probably not receive any treated even if needed.

Stress  is something we all go through. Whether it’s big or small we are all in town or stress at some point and our lines. Now there is good stress mad stress. Stress is the stress that motivate you to do better or even work harder. bad stress just leads you to being not proactive. Article goes into detail about how stress and substance abuse/addiction can go hand-in-hand if not treated properly. An experiment done on animals proves it. “Preclinical research also shows that stress exposure enhances drug self-administration and reinstates drug seeking in drug-experienced animals.” What we are finding out are Psychologist and researchers are starting to correlate the two as well as the facts. So now this topic is not just becoming an excuse for people to do engage in substance abuse it’s actually proven.

http://college.usatoday.com/2016/10/22/depression-is-at-an-all-time-high-for-college-students/

This article talks about depression. College students face many obstacles coming into the school. As we know it could be a stressful time and college was basically the place we learn to grow up you’re not baby anymore.  Depression is at a all time high for college students. As stated in the article, “According to a 2013 American Psychological Association survey, about one-third of college students have experienced depression within the past year and had difficulty functioning because of it.” This well-known fact is the reason why we need to focus on what is going on with students and how we can help them.  People think depression just has to do with sadness but some of the symptoms or signs he just can’t see. With many students losing their lives by being exposed to substance and partying with bad decisions out of impulse just to avoid feeling depressed. We have to ask ourselves, how can we stop this and how can we help.

Something that I found interesting in this article article that contribute to my topic is that they actually put a list where you can compare and contrast the differences between being stressed mean depressed. This is important now since most of the signs are similar. Many of us think that they might be the same thing or is that just depressed might just be someone being sad when it’s much bigger than that.

this widespread of mental illness is increasing rapidly. This alarming fact is wellknown, what isn’t, is the fact that we don’t know how to stop it yet. among the mental illnesses that affect students are anxiety disorder. “Anxiety disorders are the most prevalent psychiatric problems among college students, with approximately 11.9 % of college students suffering from an anxiety disorder” this is a huge amount if you consider the millions of students in college in the U.S. another main mental illness address is depression. depression is one of the most harmful because if not treated people can cause harm to themselves. something i like about the article is the writer addresses the abuse of alcohol in college. with many people being leftuntreated for their mental illnesses this could be a life threatening situation as we hear about on the news. many kids drink them selves or abuse drugs to death. “Approximately one in five college students meet the criteria for alcohol use disorder (AUD) in the previous year (12.5 % alcohol dependence and 7.8 % alcohol abuse)”

Source 6

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/jclp.21972/abstract

this article talks about a survey done by The American College Health Association which surveyed to over 30,000 students across 39 campuses. “Results of the survey showed a significant increase in psychological problems on college campuses. For instance, 15.4% of students reported being diagnosed with depression. Furthermore, 28.4% of all students, regardless of whether they were diagnosed, reported that they felt so depressed that it was difficult to function.”what is alarming about this is as we know many students including myself will not go up and ask for help or talk to people. we feel the need to deal with it ourselves or some feel that they would get judged. The article addresses that substance abuse is another concern. with students not in the right state of mind this could be harmful to themselves and others.

The amount of mental health issues of students has rose throughout the years.  “The most common substances used by young adults are alcohol, tobacco
and cannabis [8-10]. The use of two or more of these
substances simultaneously, known as polydrug use, has
received growing attention in the literature due to an increase
in prevalence in early adulthood.” With mental health issues many students may find the abuse of such substances such as drugs and alcohol as a way to relax and cope. the study done in the article focused on students 18-25 in france. it tried to determine what these students have in common. Which age/criteria fit best for the growing amount of the substance abuse.

Negative affects have been link to the abuse of substances of drugs and alcohol. People don just abuse these drugs without a purpose. in college this where most people are exposed to these real life situations. the article defines the need for these substance to cope has having a negative urgency. “Negative Urgency refers to an individual’s tendency to engage in impulsive behavior while experiencing feelings of distress. a study showed that women diagnosed with alcohol dependence had  higher levels of Negative Urgency compared to both a control group of women, and a group of women diagnosed with depression” Having Negative Urgency has been shown to lead to the abuse of alcohol, smoking, and the use of illegal drugs. what this proves is it could be psychological to cause these behaviors.

https://search.proquest.com/docview/1791486139?pq-origsite=summon

“When an individual is faced with an intense emotional
experience the more dominant emotions take over, and the individual can no longer rationally consider the situation” It seems that in many articles it is an impulse control. that something in the brain makes us not distinguish from right or wrong. something makes us choose the easy way instead of the right way.

Hypothesis 2nd Draft—pATricKStar

College students are at a high risk for mental health issues in the U.S

  1. They are prone to depression/ anxiety (social)
  2. The lack of sleep and workload adds to the vulnerability of this issue
  3. Many College student don’t even know the sign of the mental health and just think it’s simple stress.
  4. The negative effects of this can cause an abuse of drugs/ alcohol and even further neglect to their health
  5. Without help these students can have their conditions worsen and build life threatening habit for the future
  6. In college this is when kids are most vulnerable to their conditions because this is where they are on their own, living and preparing for the future, and trying to be independent young adults.

Summaries—pATricKStar

Africa should screen Americans for measles

It seems counterintuitive that many people believe it is the poor affecting the main populations when it comes to viruses and diseases being spread. In fact, it is not those who cannot afford to have the resources of vaccination but those who are opposed to the subject.

To come to the United States immigrants have to present paperwork such as a visa as well as their medical records which hold vaccination reports. If these travelers do not provide any records then they must get vaccinated before coming into the country. with many resources such as free flu vaccines at pharmacies such as Walgreen the question is why is this still an issue. The problem is our rights as shocking as that sounds. To further explain because as citizens we have a right to refuse to vaccinate ourselves we are the ones creating the risk.

In colleges know they are making it mandatory to obtain vaccinations if you would like to live on campus without it you will be refused housing. so the question is raised why don’t people want to get vaccinated? Well for most they believe it is unsafe and holds a large amount of other toxins. the truth is infants as well as adults run a great risk and these vaccines are mostly made up of water with antigens. although the side affects are there and there is an eighty five to ninety five percent chance it works it is worth it. we should all get vaccinated to stop the risk of infecting others and having to spend a large sum of money to get cured.

Is This Photo Ethical?

It seems counterintuitive that taking photos of disasters happening may be ethical. The fact of the matter is that that in today society money holds a great power of morality. Many people make it their jobs to take pictures and videos for news companies sch as Fox and ABC. at a certain point where is the line crossed of what right and what is wrong.

Is having a crowd of photographers taking a pictures of a young, 15 year old Haitian girl as she takes her last breath acceptable; just to display a story for the evening news. In my opinion Yes it is unethical. this girl was shot on accident by police officials now everyone has to see her lifeless corpse. At a certain point a story can raise awareness without having all the gruesome effects of seeing this tragedies through media. think about how the family would feel seeing her photos posted everywhere. having to be reminding of that specific day and be able to see in.

The reasons I find it disrespectful is most of these news photographers are not in it for the story but for the money. They travel to different countries getting thousands of photos each week for profit. The sad part is none of the families of the victims will ever see a dollar. what is even worst is most people wont find it a memorable story without this explicit media.

Elephant abuse

it is counterinutive to think that a famous circus of  performers and is said to be one of the greatest shows on earth meant for families does not treat each one of their own as family. the Ringling Bros have been one of the most popular circus’ around. they attracted thousands with acrobats, clowns, and exotic animals. what made them special was their theme of family.

Elephants are one of the most largest and friendliest mammals. they are quite intelligent animals and have served in many circus acts. animal abuse with circus’ have been going on for a long time. overtime these circus’ started to fall once word got out. In today’s society they’re rare. What was found was worst these so called family acts trained such lovable friendly creatures by instilling them with fear and punishment. They used whips, electric shocks and even bullhooks to ensure their commands were met.

Kenny was an a Elephant at the Ringling bros circus he died like many after being ignored treatment by his owners. Kenny deserved justice like many elephants. He deserved to have someone speak for him. He deserved to be free. No animal should have to pay with their lives just because of profit. Its up to us to make a change and not allow for these atrocities to happen.

Hypothesis 1st Draft—pATricKStar

The comingling of drugs and stress on a college campus

1. With college being stressful alone many students turn to negative ways of coping.

2. Finals week there in a huge amount of abuse of drugs.

3. What are the reasons and how does the brain create a need/want to satisfy this sort of anxiousness.

4. Does media/ society play a role in making people conform.
