o.o1– The first image is a middle-aged African American women possibly in her own home sitting on the couch in the living room with a laptop on her lap. The woman is wearing casual clothing, a blouse and jeans. On the right side of the image sitting next to the lady is a medium sized black and white dog. Behind the lady sitting on the couch is a view of the modern day kitchen and back door. The house looks as if it has plenty of sunlight shining through indicating that the windows or curtains maybe open. The lady’s face is calm, her eyes are focusing on the laptop. The dog is standing tall interested in whats on the laptop also. The women is the main focus of the ad, not anything else.

0.02– The next image is now focused directly on the laptop screen, giving us (the audience) the view they lady and dog have on the laptop screen as the laptop sits on her lap. The laptop screen has a letter opened to view stating “how to save for retirement.” Everything in the background is blurred out, for the audience to focus only on the computer screen.

0.03– The current image is showing the outside of a grey two level house. From this image I can not make out if the house belongs to the lady in the previous image. The house looks up to date on the outside, nice landscaping, the house also has a bright red front door and a bright red and white sold sign in the front yard of the house. Indicating that the house has been sold to someone.

0.04/ 0.05 also 0.06 Shows the same exact image focusing on the house. Slowly zooming into the house approaching to the next scene.

0.07– The same African American women is now at a laundry mat. She has a scrambled look on her face. She is standing in front of a row a dryers filled with clothes, facing a the folding tables. On the table is a laundry bin filled with clothes were her cell phone sits on top, a notebook and pin, clean clothes and laundry detergent.

0.08– The women picks up her pin to write in her notebook. She is looking frantically at her cellphone to record/ write down what she is seeing on the cellphone. A man with a hand full of clothes passes behind her.

0.09– The image is showing the blue laundry bin filled with orange folded towels. The women’s cellphone sits on top of the towels, in a position that the women can view clearly. It looks as if an informational video with a young lady sitting at a desk is playing on the cellphone, that the lady is viewing while doing her laundry.

0.10– Now the lady is at a gym, working out on a exercise bike. She has on workout clothes and sneakers. She is also talking on her cell phone, with she other hand she is balancing on the bike. The film makers added this scene to show that she can juggle many things a one time.

0.11/ 0.12– The woman pause as if she received news over her phone call. Slowly the image shows that it was good news. Out of excitement she cheers, laughs and smiles. She is still seated on the exercise bike and still holding her cell phone to he ear.

0.13– A African American man working out on the treadmill behind her starts to stare at her with a very questioned look on his face.

0.14/ 0.15– Is showing a chart titles “The House List.” The chat is showing pictures of five different houses at the top of the chart along with the house names. The chart has different categories such as, overall rating, front yard, garden area/ backyard and walkable at amenities. Along side each category and under each house in the row are small blue stars ranging from 1 to 4 stars. Along side the overall rating category are circle stickers under each house in the row. The woman is currently placing an orange sticker under the fourth house in the row.

0.16– The woman is now standing along a street with her back facing the street with another house on it. I’m imagining that she is standing in front of a house that is on her list of houses because she is holding a clipboard and a pin as if she is checking something on the list off. She is wearing casual clothing and she has a satisfied look on her face.

0.17/ 0.18–  This image is showing the woman flushing the toilet in two different houses on a split screen. I came to the conclusion that it was two different houses because the bathroom floors are different and the toilets are shaped different also the women is standing at a different angle.

0.19– Now the screen has split into 8 different small images of bathroom toilets as the women flushes each one by one. Each bathroom floor is different.

0.20– Now the screen has split into 15 different small images of bathroom toilets. Now the women is flushing all the toilets at the same time. All the bathroom floors remain different.

0.21– The woman is standing in the middle of an empty house with no furniture she is still holding her clip board possibly with her “The House List.” To the left of the women is a younger lady dressed in a suit skirt holding a folder with her hand in motion as if she is asking the women “how do you like it?” I concluded that is a realtor. I have also concluded that they just finished touring the house. As I look closer it appears to me that this is the same house from the beginning clips. She is standing in  the same spot that shows the same back door and same half of the kitchen. This image also shows us the bright red door on the house from a previous clip but now the door is open and she is inside the house and not standing on the street on the house. She looks satisfied with her final decision.

0.22– The realtor continues with her hand motion and women looking for the house nods her head and smiles.

0.23/ 0.24–  The image is now of the women slowly sitting down on the same couch from the beginning of the Ad with her dog and lap top.

0.25, 0.27–  The clip is still showing the women sitting on the couch with her dog and laptop but she looks happier and has more expression on her face of relief.

Section 10

Today she’s fielding phone calls from a woman whose veteran son was committed to a non-VA psychiatric facility, but he doesn’t want to be at the facility because he, a severe-PTSD sufferer, was already paranoid before one of the other resident loons threatened to kill him, and anyway he fought for his fucking country and they promised they wouldn’t abandon him and he swears to God he will have to kill himself if the VA doesn’t put him in with the other soldiers.

– The author is explaining that the son does not want to be in a regular facility with non veteran patients and he has served for the United States and he struggles with PTSD and wants to be around his fellow soldiers. He feels as though the USA needs to obey his request.

Another veteran’s wife calls from the parking lot of a diner to which she fled when her husband looked like he was going to boil over in rage.   

– Assuming that the husband is suffering from PTSD he might have saw, heard or had a flashback about something from war that made him upset and begin raging.

Another woman’s husband had a service dog die in the night, and the death smell in the morning triggered an episode she worries will end in him hurting himself or someone else if she doesn’t get him into a VA hospital, and the closest major clinic is four hours away and she is eight and a half months pregnant and got three hours of sleep, and the clinic’s website says its case manager position for veterans of Iraq or Afghanistan is currently unstaffed, anyway.

-The dog may have died from not being taking care of. The wife is eight months pregnant and the husband sounds like he needs to get help from a VA hospital as soon as possible.

-The clinic’s website may be telling a lie because the are over loaded with patients already. The clinic may be having a hard to finding someone to fell the position because they know the job is hard work.

The phone never stops ringing. If it does for 14 seconds, Brannan writes an email to help get whatever someone needs, or publishes a blog post about her own struggles.

-Assuming that she never gets a break from the phone line, sounds like that is what she does her entire work shift. Which means that there are a lot of veterans that are suffering with PTSD and need help.

 

he’s been “sleeping or hiding,” Brannan describes it, 20 or so hours a day for a few days. He leans forward to put his glass of orange juice on the table; it takes many, many long seconds for him to cover the few inches; today, like most days, he feels “like a damn train ran over me.”

-PTSD is making him do things differently such as sleeping 20 hours a day. It is also effecting is motor skills. The images in his mind or flashbacks he has about war affect his entire day.

“Breathe,” Brannan says to nearly every woman who calls, though when I ask her if she follows her own advice, she says no. “If I stopped, and started breathing,” she says, “I would be too sad.”

-Telling each woman who calls to breath is stating that when they all call with urgency and wanting to receive help immediately.

So she doesn’t. If she’s not saving lives on the phone or blogging, she’s offering support via Facebook, where thousands of Family of a Vet users and nearly 500 FOV volunteers congregate and commiserate.

-She wants to help Vets and their family in any way she can, she knows what they are going through because she is dealing with the same situation.

“I am now more hypervigilant than my husband,” volunteer Kateri Peterson posts to her Facebook page, and people comment things like “I know that even if my husband is having a decent day I am still in that alert mode and he is asking me to please relax and for the life of me, as hard as I try, I just can’t, I am still on the lookout.

-She is more hypervigilant than her husband because she cares for her husband and family and doesn’t want anything to happen to them.

-Her husband is asking her to relax because he does not want her to stress about his condition of PTSD. He does not want to put the burden of her.

On a private Facebook group, Kateri tells the story of how her family was at Olive Garden when she started sobbing into her Zuppa Toscana. Just the general overwhelmingness of her distress, of that awful overstimulating hypervigilance, the sort of thing you develop sometimes when you live with someone who looks out the living room window for danger literally hundreds of times a day, or who goes from room to room, room to room, over and over to make sure everyone in each one is still alive.  

-Stating that PTSD is a very serious and stressful condition to go through for that individual veteran and their family.

Junk Food is 21st Century Imperialism–

1. It seems counterintuitive that billon dollar companies such as McDonalds, Pepsi and other are tasteful and are very assessable but these companies cause many health risk and obesity. Reports show that these companies are now working on healthier ingredient to include into recipes and menus. In Brazil many cultural food places are being replaced with european cultural food places. The European food places are not what the Brazil people are use to and are unhealthy, they feel as the they are bring ripped away from their culture. The European food culture includes things like Coke and Kit-Kit and pudding.

2. It seems counterintuitive that some say the $28 billon supplement and vitamin industry the vitamins we are taking have no nutritional value to them at all and no evidence that they make us healthier. We should eat more of green leaf foods, and foods that contain these vitamins in them to receive vitamins, instead of taking a pill supplement.

3. It seems counterintuitive that many items in Walmart’s vegetable section items are listed as organic but may only say grown in the USA as customers read closer into the label. This is misleading to their customers and causes controversy. In 2000 all Walmart’s argued to get produce from local grown farms near by the stores. Very few Walmart’s have started to connect with local farms and is now receiving fresher grown items but many have not done so yet.

Stone Money–pdqlover20

What is money, anyway? When I was younger I though money brought happiness. I also though money ruled the world. When someone would ask me where did I see myself in 10 years I would say “I hope to have a stable career so I can make a lot of money.” I use to compare money to success. As maturity set in I learned that money is not everything, we do not need money to be happy. I learned that happiness comes from within and that money is only a number.

If we all had the same amount of money the world would be a lot different. Money is what causes different social status in our country. For example some different social status are lower class, middle class and upper class.  Money can make people do evil things at times, money is a great tool for helping other but is nit needed at all times. If money could be controlled by the government America would be a calmer and stress free country. Many Americans work hard day to day but money is never currency as we get paid. Money has no actual value.

We can think of money as a spinning circle, circling from one person hand to the next. Discussed in NRP broadcast 423 The Invention of Money they question if “America really knows how much money is out there in dollars” and how could we ever find out the total amount each person owns. Back to my second paragraph if we all had an equal amount of money this would not be a topic to discus. I think America should money is not paying enough attentions to the amount of money that is out there.

The broadcast relates the Limestone wheel of the Yap community and the American dollar to having no physical value but having a value in faith. Another comparison is that a person does not have to physically have the stone in front of them but other automatically know they stone belongs to that person and they are wealthy. As in America I can relate this to famous people. Celebrities are know to have money with having to ask no questions. Money is what makes people who they are today which can be a good or negative result. My views on money have changed tremendously, they article “The Island of Stone Money” by Friedman Milton opened my eyes to the situations in France and Brazil that I knew anything about the text was very informational.

In the source I gather it states that the dollar bill has no real value other than iconic heros faces on them. The author explains that “money generally took the form of coins composed of precious metals such as gold and silver.” Which compares to the The Island of Stone Money article.
