Money seems to have a big role in our society; we can’t do much or get far without any. The value of money is always present, even if the money itself is not physically present. In today’s society we must show faith in the government and in the banking system that the money it is being handled with in the proper manner, or be forced to hide all of the money we made underneath our mattresses or around our houses. I have no clue what happens in the banks, or how they take care of anyones money. I always thought money was simple; we either have some or we don’t—that’s it. However, being introduced to this assignment, the Yap Fei, US gold, French francs, Brazilian cruzeros, and debit accounts now seem similar. No one actually sees their money being transferred. When a person gets paid, they aren’t handed cash, they don’t receive a physical check, the money’s all directly transferred to that persons bank account, and they just have to trust that they got more money.

Our society is driven by money. The rich achieve great feats while the poor struggle to accomplish the most basic tasks. However, value is not only found in physical money. We place our trust in the government and the banks that our money is being handled properly, to avoid hiding actual, physical money under our mattress. Many people have no idea how the banks handle this money. Either someone has money or she doesn’t; the concept seems very simple. But this assignment opens eyes to the realities of a variety of currencies, such as the Yap Fei, US gold, French francs, Brazilian cruzeros, and debit accounts. The currencies all have one thing in common; no one sees them physically transferred. When we get paid, we are not handed a check, we are presented with a number on a screen that represents how much money is in our checking account. We just have to trust that that screen is correct.

Vancouver is having huge problems with heroin addicts committing crimes to support their habits. The people involved with the “free heroin for addicts” program are doing everything they can to stop the addicts. The problem is that the crime rate has skyrocketed due to the addicts’ behavior. The addicts obviously have a hard time getting through their day to day lives. Daily activities such as jobs, interactions, and relationships become to difficult to maintain while leading their current lifestyles. Heroin addicts are characteristically desperate and will do whatever they must to get their hands on the drug including committing crimes such as breaking and entering as well as stealing. Such severe desperation will drive them to great lengths to feed their addiction. This program is making great strides towards lowering the crime rate related to heroin use but isn’t doing much to actually get addicts off drugs. By providing the drug, these addicts will be off the streets, which in turn will prevent them from committing minor street crimes. Such a strategy will also keep the heroin users out of the cycle of entering a hospital for withdrawal or overdose symptoms and then not being able to pay the bill. This program gives people free heroin in the cleanest way possible, which will in turn fix the city but not the addiction that these people face.

Money seems to have a big role in our society; we can’t do much or get far if we don’t have any. Money is valuable in different ways, even when it isn’t seen physically. In today’s society we must have faith in the government and in the banking system that our money is being handled with in the proper manner, if not then we would have to hide all of our money under our mattress’ or around our houses. It’s hard to tell what goes on in banks, or what happens to the money inside of them. I always thought money was simple; it’s either there or it isn’t—that’s it. However, being introduced to this assignment, the Yap Fei, US gold, French francs, Brazilian cruzeros, and debit accounts now seem similar. No one actually sees their money being transferred. Money is more elusive now, there’s no more cash in hand or paychecks, money is directly transferred into bank accounts and we just believe it exists.

The “free heroin for addicts” program is doing everything they can to stop the addicts. It’s obvious that addicts have a hard time getting through their day to day lives. Daily activities such as jobs, interactions, and relationships are hard to maintain because of the fact that they’re using. By heroin users being addicted, they’ll do whatever they have to in order to get their hands on the drug. The types of crimes committed are those of breaking and entering as well as stealing. There’s no limits to where they’ll go to retrieve this drug so they can feed their addiction. The problem with this program is it won’t help addicts from using heroin. It’s only trying to save the city from rising crime rates. This will also keep the heroin users out of the hospital. It’s pointless that the hospitals have to deal with people that want to use bad drugs or unsanitary needles and find themselves being unable to afford hospital bills and hard to cope without the drug. This program gives people free heroin in the cleanest way possible. This in return will fix the city but not the addiction that these people face.
