Causal Argument- Collegekid9

In Vancouver, the crime rate is large because heroin addicts are committing crimes to support their habits. These addicts are having a hard time completing daily activities such as maintaining jobs, interactions, and relationships. The users often have no limits when it comes to getting their hands on heroin which has led a lot of theft. The “Free Heroin for Addicts” program is attempting to lower the crime rate of the city by providing heroin easily so that addicts do not have to commit crimes to get the drug. The program will also keep heroin users out of the hospital by reducing the use of laced drugs and unsanitary needles. The downfall to the program is that it will not help addicts move towards recovery.

  1. I’m sure you realize how weak this is, CollegeKid, but I’ll offer some feedback to help you with your rewrite.

Vancouver’s free heroin for addicts program is trying to say that there will be a smaller crime rate amongst addicts.

The program doesn’t say anything at all. Programs don’t make claims. But one claim made about the program (by whom you should say) is that it will reduce the number of crimes committed by addicts.

We have to realize that addicts have a hard time getting through their day to day lives. For addicts, daily activities such as jobs are hard to maintain because of the fact they are using.

Two sentences that say the same thing. Addicts can’t hold jobs.

When it comes to heroin users being addicted, they will do whatever they have to do to get their hands on the drug. The crimes committed are those of breaking and entering as well as stealing. There are no limits to where they will go to retrieve this drug so that they can feed their addiction.

Three sentences that say the same thing. Unemployed addicts rob homes and mug pedestrians for money to feed their habits.

    Your essay so far:

One claim made for Vancouver’s “free heroin” program is that it will prevent addicts from robbing homes and mugging pedestrians for money to feed their habits.

The problem with this program is that it won’t help to ween these addicts off using heroin. In reality they are just trying to save the city from rising crime rates. By providing the drug, these addicts will be off the streets which in turn will prevent them from committing minor street crimes.

Two sentences that make one new claim. While it may reduce crime, it won’t cure addiction.

This will also keep the heroin users out of the hospital. It is pointless that the hospitals have to deal with people that want to use bad drugs or unsanitary needles and find themselves being unable to afford hospital bills and hard to cope without the drug. This program gives people free heroin in the cleanest way possible.

Three sentences that claim a second advantage for the program. Because it delivers pure product using clean needles, the program will also keep addicts out of emergency rooms.

This will in turn fix the city but not the addiction that these people face.

A new sentence that enlarges an earlier claim. While it may reduce crime, it won’t cure addiction.

    Your essay, paraphrased:

Vancouver is giving away first-class heroin in clean needles to addicts who, because they can’t hold jobs, rob homes and mug pedestrians for money to feed their habits. By eliminating contaminated drugs and unsafe needle-sharing, the program also promises to keep addicts out of emergency rooms. While it may reduce crime and improve addicts’ health, it won’t cure addiction.

You misunderstand the purpose of a Works Cited. You have three sources in your Works Cited, but you haven’t cited any.
