Google scholar is a great source to find journals and articles to use in your paper.

Access to some articles might ask you to pay for them, try looking through Rowan’s databases first before giving up on the source.
You don’t want all your sources to agree with you, you want to persuade the reader to come to that conclusion themselves.
Consider different arguments when facing your topic.

-Make a new observation of your own.
– when you cant pay for your article, go to the rowan Campbell library and plug the title into the search bar.

Find sources that are effective and something that surprises you. Don’t just get sources that support your thesis. Think or talk to someone else about your thesis until questions start to come up that can be researched by something other than your topic. if you can’t find an article online for free go to Rowan’s Campbell Library. Search and see if they have it online. Read about the positive and negative sides of your topic.

Gaming, I guess if you begin your research thinking there are two sides, then the primary value of reading “both sides” is to alert you to the possible refutations for your argument. If that’s your plan, you will certainly benefit from using strong refutation as your primary tactic. The “other side” knows what it believes, and will give you no credit at all for your own position if it thinks its own is sound and irrefutable. To get their attention and respect, you need to proactively diminish their evidence rather than ignore it.
Finding a good topic for the research paper is extremely important.
Being able to relate or fully understand the topic is very beneficial.
Figuring out the right angle to roll with makes the paper easier to write.
The thesis is one of the most important parts of the paper, it shows what the point of the paper is.
Having a good thesis will effect the quality of the paper.
Finding sources is the second most important part of the paper, being able to back your point up is great but the thesis and angle is what to focus on.
For the most part you can find a ton of resources on the topic.

“Talked about” language is no more useful in Notes than it is in Purposeful Summaries, Intern. Sure we talked about where to look for sources. But mostly we talked about how to search for sources. To be really useful, your Notes should remind you of the techniques you think would be most helpful.

Using Google Scholar and the main concept idea of your thesis in the search will give you solid background information for research. Also, use the Rowan Library’s resources to your advantage. Rowan’s library gives you access to sources without having to pay extra.
Make sure this argument has not already been made. Jon’t list a bunch of people that have made the same argument that you have done in your paper.

That’s beautifully said, Admiral. It’s counterintuitive that the best research method is to search for something OTHER THAN the term you seek. You’ve also said very well that the value of Wikipedia and Google are to broaden your search so you can narrow it again. In fact, the beauty of selecting a very narrow thesis in the first place is that it lets us approach it from so many perspectives. Examining the small question from all angles convinces readers that we’ve thoroughly argued the central claim.
Research tips
Shouldn’t rely all on “popular” sources ex: magazine articles and tv interviews, etc.
ex: username’s paper on westboro baptist church and how they create support for the gay community. His search only turned up coverage of the hate protests and nothing to support his claim.
Looking in the wrong place:
Dig deeper on claim, in order to find sources.
The worst thing by finding the wrong sources :
1) find someone who agrees
2) find an article that echos your own idea
3) parrot someone else’s ideas

I see what you’re doing here, Today, and the analogies are brilliant. You’ll do very well to find evidence of similarities between how Sea World treats orcas and how humans treat other humans. If the writing is really good, you won’t have to say, “See the similarity?” Your readers will feel it, and the shock of drawing the analogy for themselves will be powerfully persuasive.
