  1. “My car runs on coal,” is basically what you’re saying by buying an electric car. The main difference between electrical vehicles and petroleum vehicles are 4.9 percent on reducing the carbon dioxide emissions. Electric grids in many countries are substantially reliant on fossil fuels. 559 grams of Carbon Dioxide by one kilowatt per hour is the formula for emissions. its way worse to drive an electric car in china, because it takes more carbon dioxide released to create the energy to power the electric car. This would actually be worse for the environment.

  2. Electric cars ultimately are not reducing CO2, as the process to produce more electricity would be much more harmful than staying on gas powered vehicles.
The emissions difference between Petroleum vehicles and Electric vehicles is about 4.9%
Driving an electric vehicle does not reduce global CO2 emissions. Some countries rely on fossil fuel energy sources to produce these vehicles, which increase emissions. For countries with nuclear power or hydropower, electric cars will help reduce CO2 emissions. 80% of the current electric vehicles are in 5 countries, the United States, China, Norway, Japan, and the Netherlands. The average CO2 emissions if we went over to electrc vehicles would be about 531.9 gCO2/kWh, 4.9% less than today’s petroleum vehicles.

  3. Does driving an electric car reduce CO2 emissions?
-Carbon dioxide is the leading cause for global warming.
-Most electricity is produced from burning coal, which is unhealthy for the environment.

    Against Electric Cars
-4.9% emissions difference between electric vehicles and gas-powered vehicles.
-Charging EVs on electric grids that rely on fossil fuel energy sources increases carbon dioxide emissions.
-Countries that rely on non-fossil fuel energy can significantly reduce CO2 emissions from the use of EV
-Burning gasoline is not as bad as burning coal for electricity.
-Burning fossil fuels is 80% of Germany’s energy consumption.
    – 8.7% emissions difference between EV and petroleum powered vehicles.
-Norway uses approximately 8 grams of carbon to produce 1 kWh
-For the U.S., China, Japan, Netherlands, and Norway, the average gCO2/kWh is 531.9 – 4.9% less than CO2 emissions associated with gas powered vehicles.

  4. Comp 2 notes 9/20/17
Does driving an electric vehicle reduce CO2 emissions?
CO2 Emissions: Gasses that come from the exhaust of cars. It is said to be the cause of global warming. Greenhouse gasses are blamed for global warming. The electric cars have no tailpipe, meaning there can be no greenhouse gasses released. If the electric from the cars comes from things such as burning natural gas, or burning coal, we are still emitting greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. When we get natural gasses from the ground, there is leakage, and gasses such as methane, which is 100 times worse than the emission of CO2.
If a countries electricity is made from renewable resources, there would be no CO2 emissions, meaning it would be much smarter to buy an electric car.

Notes on Electric cars not reducing CO2 Emissions- There is just a 4.9% emissions difference between electric vehicles and petroleum vehicles.
Driving an electric vehicle does nothing to reduce global-scale CO2 emissions. The electricity grid depends largely on fossil fuels.
Countries that use nuclear power or hydropower, can be more beneficial because it is coming from renewable energy sources.
Far more fossil fuel fossil fuel plants are used worldwide, rather than renewable energy sources.
Gas is a bad thing to burn, but it is not as bad as the burning of coal to make the energy for the electric cars.
80% of the worlds electric vehicles are are driven in 5 countries, Chine US Japan, Norway, and the Netherlands. It is smarter to use these in Norway, the netherlands, and the united states, but it is worse to drive them in China and Japan, because their electric is made by the burning of fossil fuels.
Owning and driving an Ev in china actually increases CO2 emissions more than owning and driving petroleum-powered vehicles do.

  5. – Counterintuitive example: everyone wants electric cars
    – I am somewhat in the middle of whether or not I would buy an electric car in the future. I would buy an electric car because it is better for the economy since it doesn’t product carbon dioxide. I wouldn’t buy an electric car because of the expenses it may come with when it comes to fixing the car.
    – Argument of first article: Driving an electric rather than a gas powered vehicle does nothing to reduce CO2.
    – Electric vehicles help in countries where the electricity is clean and they do not help in countries who’s electricity is dirty.
    – globally as a whole, electric cars only save 5%
    – If electric cars are driven in the Netherlands, Norway and the US there are advantages
    – If electric cars are driven in China and Japan there is a disadvantage because of the usage of coal
    – The average of the CO2 produced per kWh is only 4.9% less than the CO2 emissions associated with driver powered vehicles.
    – we all created our own purposeful summary sentences and then combined all our sentences to make our own paragraph at the end of class.

  6. -Electric cars do not reduce carbon dioxide emissions. It runs on coal
-Coal produces a huge amount of CO2
-5% difference between electric and gas powered cars
-Charging EV on electricity grids which are powered by coal and fossil fuel sources.
-These electricity grids cause more CO2 than gas powered cars
-In Malaysia there is a significant CO2 output
-However, you can reduce CO2 output in an EV by having an electricity grid powered by something other than fossil fuels. Norway and France use nuclear, and hydropower
-Electric vehicles help in countries with clean energy sources, but they hurt in countries with coal burning.
-In solar and wind powered Germany, they have found out that they are unreliable. The EV vehicles are mostly charged on coal powered electricity. The difference is 8.7%
-80% of the worlds EV are driven in Norway, China, Japan, the Netherlands, and the US.

  7. – Electric cars basically run off of coal
    – Coal is used to produce the electricity that is used to charge to electric cars
    – 5% difference in CO2 between electric cars and gas cars
    – Coal increases CO2 emissions
    – Some countries such as China, Japan, and Malaysia it is wore to use electric cars because they rely heavily on coal for electricity production
    – Countries like France and Norway rely on non-carbon power sources like nuclear power and hydropower so it would be better to drive EVs there because it would reduce CO2 emissions
    – Even in countries like Germany that rely on wind and solar power they still have to use fossil fuels about 80% of the time because it isn’t always windy of always sunny
    – 80% of the worlds owned EVs are owned in 5 countries: China, the U.S., Japan, Norway, and Netherlands

  8. -Counterintuitive thought: Does driving an electric car reduce Co2 emissions?
Most of our electricity is generated through burning materials such as coal. This process releases many greenhouse gases. Therefore, electric cars are worse for the environment.
-First argument: Electric Cars Don’t Reduce Co2 Emissions
There is only a 4.9% emissions difference between electrical vehicles and petroleum vehicles.
Charging EV’s on electricity grids that use coal increase Co2 emissions.
Countries that rely on this method release more Co2 emissions that countries that rely on petroleum vehicles.
Countries that rely on non-carbon sources like nuclear power or hydropower to power EV’s reduce Co2 emissions significantly.
Overall, EV’s help the environment when the electricity is generated cleanly but not when fossil fuels are used.
In Germany, there is only an 8.7% difference between EV’s and petroleum run cars’ Co2 emissions.
80% of the world’s EVs are driven in 5 countries.
China continues to create more EV’s (300,000 in 2016) that will hurt the environment.
-We wrote a purposeful summary in opposition of EVs based on this information.
-Begin your thesis with “It seems counterintuitive…”

  10. Professor says that since we get our eletricity from burning coal, the electric cars are run on coal.
In Electric Cars Don’t Reduce Carbon Dioxide Emissions, the author says that the electric cars heavily rely on fossil fuel energy. In countries that rely on nuclear power will reduce CO2 more. The answer to if electric cars help is mixed. The countries that use coal is bad while others who use nuclear power is better. Electric cars are only in use in five countries: China, the U.S., Japan, Norway and the Netherlands. It is way worse to drive an electric car in China because it produces way more CO2.
The assignment due on Sunday should start with it seems counterintuitive.

  11. Why would you want, or not want, an electric car?
    -helps the environment
-it takes longer to charge than to get gas
-electric cars do not go fast
You need to be able to back up your statements. They need to be illustrated and constructed with support and facts.
Driving an electric car reduces carbon dioxide emissions from the tailpipe. The electricity comes from burning coal; burning a natural gas. By burning coal it creates the carbon dioxide to be release.
Article 1: There is only a 5% difference between the green house gases being released in gas operated cars and electric cars. Burning coal increases CO2 emissions, which is ironic in the sense that nothing comes out of the cars tailpipe. France and Norway use non-carbon sources, so using an electric car can reduce the gases in those countries. In 1,600 coal plants are growing in 62 countries. German is trying to use wind and solar panels but are still using a lot of fossil fuels to power their country when the sun and wind don’t do the job. Sometimes it’s an advantage when countries produce electric cars, but when the country burns mass amounts of coal already it makes the situation worse.

  12. We started today’s class with just some housekeeping points. 1)if you haven’t replied with cows&chips to stone money, do so now. Same with purposeful summary applied to stone money. 2) if you’d like to be next to receive feedback to stone money or visual rhetoric, check feedback please catergory.

We then turned our focus to purposeful summary practice for our A03 assignment. The example was electric cars, why or why not? Why: because they reduce carbon dioxide emission and they’re convienent to charge at home. Why not: hard to fix, magnesium breaks, expensive, cost of electric bill, takes longer to “fill” up. Do electric. Srs reduce CO2 emission? Yes or no? CO2 emissions effect global warming. Greenhouse gases cause global warming. Electric cars remove CO2 emission from the tail pipe. Electricity comes from totally renewable power. But most of our electricity comes from burning coal which emits gases such as CO2 and methane. Methane is 100 times worse than carbon dioxide.

We read over an article which claimed electric vehicle use does not reduce CO2 emissions. These are my notes from the article.
-does nothing to reduce global scale CO2 emission
-charging on electricity grids that rely heavily on fossil fuel energy sources increases CO2 emissions
-France and Norway use nuclear which doesn’t emit CO2
-electric cars hurt when you need to burn coal to produce electricity
-4.9% less than the CO2 emissions associated with driving petroleum powered vehicle
-on a global scale, owning and driving an EV actually increases CO2 emissions more than owning and driving petroleum powered vehicles do
-EV in US can help a little bit, EV in China hurts rather than helps

    Summary for against EV
Electric cars hurt rather than help because they charge off of electricity grids that rely heavily on the burning of fossil fuels; which in turn creates CO2 and other greenhouse gases.

We review all sumamrys in comment section. By revising each other’s summaries we notice simple mistakes. We learn how to better condense our summaries and with proper grammar.

    Professor edits my summary
Electric cars hurt rather than help in countries where they charge off of electricity grids that rely heavily on burning of fossil fuels, which in turn creates CO2 and other greenhouse gases.

Purposeful summaries DO NOT refer to the article . We must remember our summary is our own words based off the knowledge from the article.

    Second chance revision of summary
Electric cars hurt rather than help in countries where they charge off of electricity grids that rely heavily on burning of fossil fuels, which in turn creates CO2 and other greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases are the cause of glow all warming; slowly but surely our planet is suffering the consequences. If every country switched to electric cars the effect would hurt all of us.

For our A03 assignment we must start each summary with “It seems counterintuitive…”
ex: It seems counterintuitive to question the benefit of electric cars that emit no greenhouse gagses; nonetheless, they’re not always beneficial.

For our summaries we choose three counterintuitive articles either from the blog roll or on our own. We must summarize each of these with the beginning sentence we’ve been given.

  14. Electric cars versus Gas powered cars are pretty much the same, they both hurt the environment in diffferent ways and they both cost a good amount of money and have their own negative downsides.

A new study show that electric cars do not reduce CO2 emissions because charging them on electricity grids rely heavily on fossil fuels. The lack of a tail pipe is just as bad because it burns so much coal to get power in car, as stated in the article “New Study: Electric Vehicle Use Does Not Reduce CO2 Emissions.”

  15. Notes 9/20/17
-Pros and Cons to an electric car:
Electricity to drive a EV car comes from reusable resources but most electricity comes from burning coal. EV reduces CO2 from the tail pipe. In the long run EV cars help save money with not having to pay for gas. They are hard and expensive to maintain and have a slow speed. It is a longer time for your EV to charge than it would be to just go and buy gas.

-Electric Car Don’t Reduce CO2 Emissions: argument; EVs rather than petroleum- powered vehicles does nothing to reduce global-scale CO2 emissions.
